Valve has announced that the popular "Left 4 Dead" will be available as a free trial for everyone beginning Friday at 12:01 AM GMT for 24 hours.
"The free trial will include access to the recently released Survival Pack DLC, which introduces a new multiplayer game mode and two additional Versus campaigns. Those who wish to give L4D and the Survival Pack a try may now pre-load everything needed to play with no obligation to purchase."
Did you enjoy the game, Doc ???? Do you think you will play it one more time ???? Or do you think it is maybe too repetitive ??? So curious, dude, sry... 😛
I loved it. It's kind of similar gameplay throughout- move thru the landscape, kill the zombies, survive - but then all games can boil down to simplistic descriptions like that. It's how's executed that determines the fun.
L4D has something that other games have been missing for me since BF2 - teamplay. You work as a team, or die separately. I get tired of shooting my friends all the time, and it's nice to work with them for a change.
The game itself is a mish-mash of good and bad. The Good: the gfx, sound, the environments are great, and there are some gameplaying elements (tanks, smokers, boomers, witches and hunters) that add variety and variability to the 'kill the mindless zombies' parade. Occasionally you'll get to use a mounted minigun, and you HAVE to remember to use the gas cans & propane tanks to prepare traps. You have Molotov cocktails, and beeping pipe-bombs, which attract the zombies to their distruction
On the other hand, there's rather more bugs in this game than I would care for at this stage in it's life, although they're not affecting me so far. Also, hard-coded key definitions? In this century? I'll have to look into tweaking things, but, for example, you can't change your push-to-talk key from 'C' from the game menus.
I have it now, and look forward to playing it this weekend. 😀
It's a great alternative game for when there are only 2 - 4 guys on and you want to play something different. I wouldn't form a gaming clan based on it, but I don't think that's what it was intended for. It is fun when you really want to blow away a ton of baddies and rack up a high body count.
See, I get that. My workshop is set up that way. Seemed like some of that video was tongue in cheek and some was real, but you could hear the camera guy laughing.

I get the idea that he's REALLY like that. There's some tension between him and Adam sometimes, and Jamie really freaks out when Adam makes a mess.
You GET that? So, Sarge is Adam to your Jamie Hyneman? Poor, poor Sarge.

I would love to play a round l4d with Bubba - I would love to hear him rant - and Sarge and Doc would be playing too and laughing their asses off and I would like to heal Bubba although he would probably did not like that and rant about that too 😀 All in all I cannot imagine a game with just one of you guys participating that would not be any fun ;P And if the game is repetitive - so well it may be - that is what I would call repetitive fun ;P

All games are repetitive. Even the ones that have more options get repetitive. I think Battlefield 2 was one of the least repetitive, open games we've played, and even that got repetitive, although I think that's often because we stick with what we know, rather than go off and do other things. I know I had routines down for different maps- on Karkand, I'd attack or defend the suburbs, on Sharqi, I'd defend or attack the Surveillance Point under some conditions, others, it would be the TV station. Most of us refused to fly, so that cut off one part of the game. I didn't even like tanks/APC's, so that's another part. . .if you're creative and try different things, the games stay fresher. It helps if you're having fun with the other ppl you're gaming with.
And I had a lot of good times playing BF2 with the gang. It's just the game was too unpredictable for me. If I point at someone's head, I want to hit them with the bullets.......
I enjoyed it with alot of annoyances. I could deal with the annoyances until finally the smacktards came out in full force. At that point I was done with the game.
