Interesting article on the new Medal of Honor game and essentially how the Rat Bastards are using corporate doublespeak and controversy for free marketing. The gist of the story is this; EA makes a Medal of Honor game based on the current war in Afghanistan in which the US invaded to overthrow the Taliban. In the game you could play the Taliban. Some people freaked out and declared it patently offensive to have that in the game. EA backs down and says that playing the Taliban was just a menu option and not a critical component to the game.

While this war is certainly more fresh in our minds than many others, how is it fundamentally more offensive than any other historical FPS setting that has ever been made? To me, offensive or not, that is sort of like making a WWII game and not being able to play as the Germans or Japanese. It completely removes the context and makes it absolutely generic.

Free speech is not a marketing plan
