What has everyone set there's too in order to use the in-game VOIP at a level other players can hear & understand.. Any tweaking needed outside of BF:2?.. I think mine might be to soft so trying to nail down a solution..
Mic Settings for VOIP..

#2 I hate VOIP in games. I can't stand it in UT and I don't care for it in BF2. I can't understand why game's insist on adding crappy features when something already exists and works well.
Sorry, I had to rant. When you figure it out, let us know. :-) -
#3 hah.. well the premise in how it works is good.. I like the fact that it tones down the "other" noise going on so you can hear clearly what the other person is saying.. and the idea of only Squad Leaders can communicate with the Commander would reduce the amount of outside chatter.. It'd definitely be useful in Match play as only Squad members would talk to eachother and not be calling out positions of enemies that another squad is nowhere near.. The premise is good just need to figure out how to volume it up 🙂 -

Actually, I rather liked it in UT. And, I kind of like the implimentation in BF2, but it lacks the ability to smacktalk to everyone else on the server. It would be nice if we had the option of a channel for squad-only, and had it as default. But it'd also be nice to chime in when you launch a well placed missle or a sweet bullet from a sniping position, robbing the other team at that crucial moment.
But then, once again, I feed off of the frustration of others. Which makes me evil. -
#5 I guess I don't get it. Is it keyed or is it always on?? I have it turned on but I never transmit anything. Of course I could probably RTFM. -

Keyed, default key is "b". -
#7 It's come in pretty handy for me. Playing the other night as a squad leader the commander was setting up some nice arty for me and supplies. Helped that I could communicate directly with him.
It's indispensible when playing in a squad to be able to communicate with the others. Played on a couple of servers where the voip was off and it was difficult to keep track of my guys and what they needed. We were still able to coordinate tasks somewhat, but its difficult just using the command interface. -
#8 I have had good experiences with it with the one exception of the other night when a few of us were on. You need to have the settings right. I fixed my TS settings and that started to work just fine it seemed. -
#9 I actually prefer the in game VOIP. You dont have to jack with TS, with multiple chat sessions. You dont have 50 ppl all talking over each other. The command structure is reinfocred by it, and it allows a small group of 4-6 to work together better, instead of 24 ppl all talking on one TS channel. Also with only the squad ldrs talking to the commander, he doesn't get flooded with useless chit chat/chatter/spam.
In fact I think SPAM is the very reason they didnt put in a global chat key. I could easily see a bunch of dork kiddies spaming the whole team if there was one. 🙂
Plus if I hop into a server and squad up with a good player, he and I can INSTANTLY communicate with no problems. Once I set my mic input level (correctly) in the options screen, it has worked flawlessly since. Also when using TS or VOIP, always ALWAYS say *Over* when done talking, I started doing it recently and it lets the listeners know when you are done. I have noticed when I do it, other squadies pick it up and start doing it. It really lessens the talking over each other! -
#10 I like idle chit chat. It's more fun to give your buddies shit when pubbing. For match play, I can see the benefits. -
#11 I've been running both TS and the in-game VOIP at the same time, and while confusing at times, it allows for the idle conversation and coordination with fellow GRB's as well as the squad team-work in the game. Occassionally though I find myself pushing the wrong "talk" button and telling those on TS what I meant to tell the squad or vice-versa. Once I get my BF2 legs on fully though, it shouldn't be a problem. 🙂
