I was looking for a DDO alternative (I know) just for something different to do and stumbled upon Need For Speed World.

    http://world.needforspeed.com/

I've done a half dozen races mostly against computer opponents and it's a fun distraction from grinding levels. I also led police on a half hour pursuit that was completely unrealistic, but fun as hell. Winning races and pursuits helps you level which unlocks different cars, improved parts, powerups, and painting and the like. I was level two in less than 30 minutes using the stock freebie car.

It's also FTP, with subscription or micropayment options.

As a diversion it's fun with a pretty wide open driving environment. I don't see spending a lot of time playing it, but can see GRB races happening now and again.

Like the DDO download, you download the launcher application which then downloads the full game. It will take a while, similar to DDO. Each time you launch the game you need to check for downloads but it seems to check and launch pretty quickly.

+1 Downloading now - sucker for decent driving games - though most get repetitive and just add more laps faster opposed to making the skill level increase.... but hey youjust saved me from healing a Shroud run.... that HAS to account for something.

    Thanks.

Did not get a lot of time to try it out but cranked it up to max detail and man it looks good for a free game - account name GRBDUCK would be cool if we can create a custom GRB race - will dig in to it more in the AM.

EDIT yah I was able to create a private room - it allows you to invite people - so looks like I'll take some time to find the users manual and see how to create custom races....

    Bubba chop chop we're racin'

I started it up last night for the updates. I'll try it out tonight.

What's the Atomm puke factor going to be on this game?

Moderate to very high I can drive along just fine and then all of a sudden get wicked vertigo and have to quit - some times I play for 45 min some times 10 min -

I can't see this as more than a moth long diversion for less than an hour or two at a time. Tops.

I played it for a bit last night. Just made it to level 3 and had to jump off. It hit me just like you said. I was fine, then one race, bam. And it was right when Sarge jumped on too.

Add GRBATOMM to your friends list. I plan on playing this from time to time. Might be fun for a FNF.

Fixed But your right - a private room and a few laughs would be fun

I am SO NEVER going to find myself in a private room with Duck "Sharing a few laughs" (Is that was the kids are calling it these days?) while we wait for others.
