Just got confirmation on my new UT server. Here are the particulars:

Your new server IP address is: 72.9.229.41 - 16 players/public
Your new Server Port Number is: 7777

Teamspeak IP is: 72.9.229.11:14054 password 'vclan'
Add this TS to your list and feel free to use it anytime yours may act up. I'll create a BF2 channel on it just in case.

Its all yours every Thursday nite that you keep interested. Paladin has expressed interest in running it, so I'll send him the particulars via email.
Currently its a plain install, so let Pal, me, or whomever else wants to work on it know the map/whatnot you would like to see there by next Thurs.

If you want to work on this, email me your qualifications 🙂

Ya know, playing some BF the last couple of weeks gives me some UT ideas.

I'll install vCTF this week. 200% better than CTF on BF. Its not a kludge or workaround, but builtin to the game. I bet you guys would love it.

Then there's Jailbreak, BombingRun, Assault, Domination, Deathmatch, CTF with weaps/tranx's, Team Areana Match, etc, etc.

Its also my opinion to maybe try not using the lowgrav stuff just so you feel the same dropping in from BF the night before. Another gametype you should give an honest try is Onslaught providing you can promote it enough beforehand. With enough players its exactly like the 'push' mod on BF, but again built-in with no confusion, and works flawlessly. With the new added capacity and correct standard gametypes, pubs will see us and join in the fun. More pubs, more fun.

Also if you guys are interested, I can arrange a day of the week where you could do some training with a Community Reloaded tutor. Its fun and you can pick up some easy tips to make more sense out of your movements, tatics, etc. For ex, just learning how to dodge, wall jump, and shield gun jump would elimate the need for lowgrav. You may feel better for the skills learned.

UT2004 remains at #7 on the list of most active players per week. Its things like Reloaded, TWL, etc, that keep the game from dying out.

Just a couple of things to chew over this week....

It was ok. Seemed like you had more frag chances which is good. Good for a change of pace. At the moment I still prefer commanders, arty, and capping flags whereever your at.

I didn't care for how one set of 3 guys were capping all the flags and running to the next before I could catch up. Then again, points didn't matter there last night 😉

Still, better than the CTF mod.

Perhaps this 'push' team could be swayed to at least add some map packs with this mod. Now I could see playing 'Bocage' with push 🙂

I think I'm way too much a purest, sigh.

I personally am just not unto UT enough to have to have practice in it. I only have patience for one game and right now it is BF2. 🙂

I think it is a cool idea though for those that want to learn more. You are just into UT a LOT deeper than me. A tutor, come on now, no one can improve me 😉

I like onslaught, it is a push type game. I played it and enjoyed it. It can get very confusing through at times. Lots of action UT is better at having many game types built in. BF2 should have had a push and CTF right from the start built in.

I will get jailbreak set up, that is a lot of fun. I will also FTP a bunch of assault maps I have on my HD. No idea how to play them but there they are 😉

Thanks again on the use of your server, it is really nice of you to let us set stuff up on it.

UT is still cool to play sometimes for a break!

I would be up for some onslaught. The problem with Jailbreak is the downtime. I want something fast paced.

Jailbreak usually does not have that much downtime all the times we played. If you have a good team they release you fairly often. part of the fun is doning that. You also have the arena matches to break things up.

As I said many times Assult, JB then whtever is my order of choice 😉

You heard DC..... He wants Onslaught..... 😛
  11. #11
damn right! you all better listen to me....or something

edit: well if you want fast, try deathmatch with a bunch of people on a really small map 😛
  12. #12
Well, not quite that fast.... I actually don't like DM. It's too chaotic for me. I prefer an element of teamwork with my speed....

Dm gets kinda boring, but I can handle an hour of it or so. I really prefer instagib, its a nice equalizer for varing talents.. your equal to someone that is wicked with bio rifle for ex 🙂

One mod I did get into alot last year was mixing invasion with iCTF. Your running for flags, fraggin' the other team, but there's the added risk of being hit by a warlord. It gave you a hell of a lot of target practice with several hundred monsters to frag. There was no way it could even be played without instagib. Yah, I do love fast action 😀

Ya know, I gotta go ahead and disagree with you on this one, for one reason. . .what if you're no damn good with the insta-gib rifle? How's that even things out, compared to ppl that live insta-gib, like you?

Its simple Doc, er at least it is in theory. With normal weaps your hits range from 40-70% for a direct hit, and half to one quarter of that for splash and glancing shots... ie just hitting the lower foot will only cause about 15% damage. With instagib, the same shot to the foot will blow him to pieces 🙂 Now figure it takes an average of 3 weapons shots to get a frag, that give you a one in three chance with insta.

Insta is just picking up on the timing. Since its an instant shot, several times faster than a lighning gun, you just have to try to shoot where you think your opponent will be the instant you pull the trigger..., that's where the good player beat you by those great moves, plus they've spent some time on thier aim too. 🙂

If you give it a chance, there's no doubt you will pick it up sooner or later.

Well, here is my take on Instagib. The very first time I played it, there was a guy who I had a 10:1 Kill ratio against. He is the fastest twitch shooter I know. As I progressed, I brought it down to about 5:1. Switch to full weapons and I instantly went to 20:1. With instagib, all things are even and it goes down to who is the fastest and the most accurate. With full weapons, it comes down to who is the fastest, most accurate, which weapon they are shooting and how good are they for compensating for the various weapon speeds.

So, in a since, there are soooo many more factors with full weapons.

If that's hard to follow, think about BF2. Infantry vs Medic in a straight up fight. Who typically wins? The infantry because they have more armour, a more accurate weapon and does more damage. Now, make everyone snipers. What factors come into play? The fight is more even. That's instagib.

I'm uploading Jailbreak now. I should have it installed tonight. Also am going to upload a VehicleCTF mods and some VCTF maps tonight. I'm thinking as a BF clan, you may prefer vehicle over standard CTF. Just make sure you have your use/enter button set.

Everything else, including all the JB maps I'm uploading are on the redirect, so you won't have to look for anything. With Onslaught, that should give us plenty to do for the hour or so everyone is there.

Also need a consenous of what mutators you want loaded with these gametypes... Thanks.
  18. #18
I was going to upload JB but no one seemed to want to play it so I didn't, sorry. I have never played vehicleCTF before. How does that work? Does it just use the onslaught maps?
  19. #19
Come to think of it, if you want to play JB, at least download and install the JB mod and basic maps so your not stuck at the redirect for an hour. Jailbreak version b is where you want to be.

Vehicle CTF is exactly like CTF in BF2. Its already built-in to UT, and only need maps with VCTF prefixs. Most are made from scratch, but some have been converted from Onslaught and CTF maps. I just have to find some maps that are on the redirect already 🙂

    Vehicle CTF sounds fun 🙂

Jailbreak sounds like it could be cool as well. However, I have this funny feeling that I would be spending a lot of time waiting to be "freed" due to my general level of suckitude at UT 🙂
  21. #21
It's funny, I gues I probably never played vanilla UT, I got it after we had a server for a long time. I think we always played some sort of mod. I still don;t know what any of these words mean. I know what jailbreak is and ctf is. I don't know onslaught, instagib... All well.

I don't have a meeting this week, so I will be there on Thurs for some time. When are people showing up?
  22. #22
I'll probably join early - say 7:00-7:30 and then bail early as well, somewhere around 9:30.
  23. #23
I'll jump in when I can. Not sure what time that would be.

I would be up for vCTF.
