Ok, I am about to start a new character. I have a level 30 Hunter and a level 20 Rogue on other servers. As you can tell, I am very much a casual gamer. I've looked into character classes for the so called "End Game", but the truth is I may never make it to 60. For me, the journey is more fun than the end...

However, I am very excited about the opportunity to play in the Battleground's. So, what are some good characters for these instances?

I am interested in playing a Rogue, Paladin or Warlock. I am leaning towards a Rogue first, then Paladin and finally a Warlock. So, what are your thoughts? Which class would fit in best in the Battlegrounds?

Lets start some conversation about this.

It all depends on playstyle. You mentioned three very different classes.

I think that it takes a particular mindset to play any caster type, including a warlock. Some people can't get over the fact that A) you can't carry a sword anymore, B) you should never be close enough to whatever your fighting to look them in the eyes, and C) have to worry about that stuff called mana. Warlock are neat because they have a pet. Not only that they have several different pets to choose from. Each has its particular use. They have damage over time spells which come in handy, and have crowd control in the form of banishing elementals and demons. On the downside, they have to worry about soulstones. This consumes alot of bag space, and it can be a pain when you need to use one of the many spells that require one. In PvP imho, warlocks are easy to defeat. Drain their mana, sick the pet on em and they don't have a chance.

Rogues are damage dealers. Plain and simple. They have a ton of cool abilities. They can stealth around, they have crowd control. But they don't have alot of armor. In PvP, they are really good. I don't know how many times I've been ganked by a stealthed rouge in PvP. If they get the drop on you, watch out.

If you like to swing a sword, but want a little more flexibility than a warrior, in the ability to cast spells, then go with a Paladin. From personal expeirence though, this is the easiest class in the game to screw up. Some of the Pallies I've grouped with focus to much on spells, and not enough on bashing things, or they completly forget they can heal anyone. It takes ffoooorreeevvveerrr to kill a Paladin in PvP. At least a well played one anyhow. If they use their abilities right, with their damage shields, healing ability and different buffs they have, it can be a very long fight.

Of course any well played class can be good in PvP. It really comes down to the player behind hte keyboard more than anything else.

Hope this may answer some of your questions.

    Well, sort of.

I understand the pluses and minus of these classes in PVP, but how does Battlegrounds affect this? I have never played Battlegrounds, but I am very much interested in it. CTF is my favorite FPS game and I'm looking forward to doing this in WoW.

I have narrowed it down to a Drawven Paladin and a Gnome Thief. I can picture the Thief being a blast in CTF, but what about the Paladin?

Battlegrounds are PvP. Basically at the moment there are three battlegrounds.

Warsong Gulch- This is a 10 player capture the flag. First team to capture the flag three times wins.

Alterac Valley- This is a 40 v 40 Battleground. And the goal is to be the first to kill the enemies general.

Arathi Basin- Is 15 v 15 player. Goal is to be the first team to control 2000k resources by occupying resource nodes.

All Battlegrounds are Horde vs Alliance free PvP areas. They are all level based, meaning that a level 60 character cannot join a level 20's BG and vice versa.

So when I talk about a characters viability in PvP, that is almost synomous with Battlegrounds.

Go here to check out information about the Battlegrounds.

it all depends on if you want to Live forever or kill things before you die. If you want to live forever then Pally would be the one to get... Now if you want to kill kill kill, then be the rogue. Problem is with BG right now it is very hard to get into one that is below lvl 60. So, that would pretty much mean lvl a toon to 60.

    60? Ah hell......

well, the only other active BG that I sorta hear about... (never seen myself) but I have heard is the 20-29 lvl's. But this is also due to the fact that everyone has tweek'd a toon so it has all the best stuff it can have at that lvl.

All level's of the BG's on Silverhand are active. Probably the most popular one right now is Arathi Basin right now. But you should be able to find a BattleGrounds group at pretty much every level after 20 on Silverhand.

But if you look closely, the Arkanald Collective is an up and coming BG on Silverhand. They SP most of the time and occasionally WMD and TN there also.
