So, what do you think?
I still don't know what the hell I am doing, but it does seem to be running better and I actually killed a few people.
I think it will be more fun when I take the time to actually learn how the game works. It's not a spray and pray game like I thought. You really have to figure this stuff out....
I still haven't played the new version. Now that I have 2142 up and running, I've been ranking up and earning unlocks 🙂
My son and I have been playing it every time we can. [Usually I come in the office and kick him out of the way and take over his game]...
Anyway, I dig the game. Once you figure out what you are doing [missions, building things, etc...] it really becomes a more enjoyable experience. At first I was just running around shooting things thinking "meh, done this enough..." but now that I know I have to protect this thing and I can setup an 'Anti-vehicle' sentry, it is all good now.
I also like the weapons that you use. Basic is some way but interesting to use. Also the vehicles are kinda cool in what they do, like the MECH type thing the strog get in the Valley map.
Runs very smooth on my system, and due to the fact that I have not done my normal annual PC upgrade in a couple years, that makes me happy 🙂
My son said people are complaining that the graphics arnt all that hot... But IMO they look more then fine considering I am not sitting around looking at the pixels in the wall... I am running around with rockets flying overhead trying to kill something... [Aka, I have a painting in my office I can look at for something 'pretty'. I am playing the game to play...]
Some of the explosions look pretty cool and give you the idea that standing in the middle of a huge rocket coming from out of the sky would be a bad thing.
Play speed seems to be along the lines of a BF2 game and not so much a Quake 3 / UT 2k... So people that don't want the twitch shooting of it can actually sit back a little as there is a lot of ground to cover and a lot of open spaces.
My overall opinion of it is....

I would give it more if I could see more maps and such. But as of right now, I will be buying it and will be happy to frag a marine or two with any of you.

I like it. You attack or defend a specific location. It works well IMHO. The graphics look good to me but I also have everything cranked up on the highest settings so that is not fair.
I still have a lot to learn myself though but I like what i see so far. I think it is a bit early for us to drop it for consideration as a clan game.
Doc, now that you are getting up there in BF2142, hell you probably already have twice the points I have knowing you, how do you like it overall now??

I played the new beta the other night and it made me dizzy as can be. Last night, I turned off head bobbing and played again. That seemed to help a lot.
The more I play Quake Wars, the more I like it. It's a rather complicated game, but I think that makes it interesting. I actually read some of the help files and figured out how to use some of the classes special abilities. I love how they gave each class something useful to help their team, rather than making one person the commander.
FYI, the server I have been playing all along is called Nacho. I have yet to have a problem other than getting kicked for too many TK's. I deserved it, but damn if it's not hard to shoot the enemy from a tank when they are surrounded by your teammates. 😈
