Can someone explain to me what I have to do to get some stripes? I'm not a stats hog, but this slick sleeve stuff is no fun.......

I got 4 in game unlocks last night. Increased sprint, flak jacket, vehicle drop and scoped spec ops rifle.

I didn't even know you could call vehicle drops.

The more I play this, the more I like how they set everything up. I'm sure over time, I will find something I don't like, but it's nice just having a game with a working server browser. Even better, one that adds a very functional friends list and the ability to create a clan.

Crazy bastards. But remember when quake wars: Vietnam comes out the server browser will be broken again, but they will fix it with the first patch. But when Quake Wars 2 comes out it'll be broken once more to never be fixed again.

    LOL!

iD has always had decent server browsers. I guess that comes from actually having experience with them previous to GameSpy.....

I played a couple single player campaigns last night and managed to rank up to a Staff Sargent once. Got a flack jacket, longer sprint, a grenade launcher, vehicle drops, and a couple other things that I cannot remember over the course of the campaign. I played engineer pretty much the whole time as that seems to be the role with the most to do. The one thing I've found that I don't like is that you have to "activate" the mines which means standing out in the open for 6-8 seconds without being able to return fire. You can set off the mines with a grenade but timing it so that the nade lands near the mine and blows someone up with it is tough...

Did you keep the rank after the match? That's what I am trying to figure out.....

It kept it for the length of the campaign. After that it reset. I'm guessing that there are some persistent ranks or stats somewhere but haven't really checked around for them.

    Yep.....

There seems to be a static Rank that allows for just bragging rights. The powerups last for the campaign, and in the only campaign that seems to be around it is the Constructor on the Strogg side that seems to get all of the credit... or maybe that is just me.

However I can't seem to see my persistent stats anywhere... maybe it doesn't like me.

See, that is the thing I can't figure out. There are persistent ranks. They don't mean squat in the games other than a rank, but I'd like to figure out how to get one....

after further paying attention to the in-game browser I realized that there were ranked and unranked servers... -blink- marked by a medal, just the unranked servers were more prevalent than the ranked ones as far as I was concerned with speeds and as such I had spent my time on unranked ones. One thing that is nice is the bots that populate even the ranked servers, keeps a game ready as long as a minimal amount of humes are available to play.

I guess I should get around to reinstalling this, huh? 🙂

If I am getting the cable company to come out and fix their f-up then yes, and I am.

The damnable ping went from a modest 23-34 for a good number of servers to me figuring out the ranking thing and then seeing an average ping of 234-300. I am more than tempted to go to DSL now as I would be getting 'better' speeds with them for the same price.

Thanks for pointing that out Cold. I forgot all about the rank vs unranked. Man, this stuff is getting silly.....

    Yes Doc, you should.

I'm proud of you bud - I guess the key was to stop giving you shit about it 🙂

Do whatever gets you the best value and performance. I've had some success with cable, and I've had a couple times when I've had to call them and get stuff straightened out. Pal will tell you to go with DSL, and if you can get the SAME SPEED for the same price, that's maybe not a bad idea at all.

One thing I HAVE learned is this: when I have internet troubles that last more than 12-24 hours, I call them. They can't fix it if they don't know about the problem.

I did a quick price check and for overall DL/UL speeds I would be about doubling traffic for same speed, just don't know about ping-age in my area.. and would mean I need to get a phone line and all that goodness. The age of the neighborhood does not bode well to the status of the phone lines either.
But the catch is what my Cable guys do about it this time.
