    Had fun guys.
    SnF were some Good games.
the IO games we played actually were not bad at all. It was not just a sniper fest. Maybe some more IO would be cool once in awhile if we can keep it that way.

Wish more than Doc, Lexx, Mikey and I were playing though.

New record, we played until 4AM EST! 😉

Wish I could have been there. I was cleaning carpets last night. Not as much fun as BF2..... ;-)

I saw you guys on as I was headed for bed, but after Saturday's festivities I just didn't have the energy to play. Glad you had a good time. Likely be on tonight for some gaming.
  4. #4
lol I was playing BF all night. I should have checked again to see if anyone was on the server.

We could not get our server started so were on pubs. We were on TS though. No problem, we shall play again 😉

BTW what is that picture in your sig from? Looks like Road Warrior or the like.

Come on Sarge, kids, party, what could possibly tire you out there! 😉

I believe it is from the original Mad Max. If I remember correctly, they are watching him take off after stopping to inspect an accident.

  7. #7
Close, but it's actually from the Road Warrior. I love post apocalyptic movies. That is from the beginning of the Road Warrior when Max destroys one of the other side's vehicles and then these fellows stop and give him the stare down. I'm trying to find a surplus ww2 ball turret that I can throw on the top of my Subaru. I've had no luck as of yet.

So, what did you think of Water World or The Postman?

I know must people didn't like them, but I enjoyed both and will watch them if they play on Cable and I'm not doing anything else.
  9. #9
I actually liked both The Postman and Waterworld. I think that both are incredibly unrealistic though. I'm not saying i'm the foremost expert on the Apocalypse and the dowfall of society, but they just seem too out there. That doesn't mean that we won't be living on floating islands and kicking ass with jet skis, machine guns and drinking our own urine from highly advanced water filtration systems but....

Then again, in the Road Warrior you have gangs of mohawk sporting bikers wearing assless leather chaps and fighting for oil. This probably isn't the most accurate prediction either.

It seems to me that if eventually the shit hits the fan and society takes a crap on itself, then people will fight amongst one another for whatever resources we have left. Basically those movies where there are trashed cars and burning buildings everywhere seems more realistic. Escape From LA? maybe. I'll tell you what though, as soon as I see that things are headed downhill i'm buying a motorcycle, getting some assless leather chaps and shaving a mohawk in my head. Let's just hope my hair doesn't fall out by then.

    LOL!

BTW, "drinking our own urine from highly advanced water filtration systems but...."

I read that 100% of all fluids are recycled on the International Space Station. So, one part is at least true.... :-)

That's true, we have the technology. I found some post apocalyptic movie forums and was looking at everyone's posts. Everyone was like, well i'm just going to stay in my house with some guns and I should be fine. Yah that will work great, for about a week till they run out of food. I've done quite a lot of thinking about the subject. Who knows what will actually happen though, if it ever does happen. It just seems to me that with the world's population increasing at such a high rate, and all of our resources being wasted as fast as we can manage, something is bound to happen eventually. I keep thinking about New Orleans and our most recent disaster there. Imagine that kind of chaos across the whole United States.

I once found a list of the top 50 apocalyptic movies. I had seen over half of them and owned like a third of them.

Regardless of what happens, I love movies that try and predict what the world will be like if anything of the sort ever occurs. The more over the top and out there the more entertaining they are to me.

What about AI? Did you see that?

I wanted to like it, but it was sooooo slow and the ending was just depressing.

Sticking my nose in...Never seen AI. I did like I Robot though! Was better than I thought it would be.
  15. #15
I haven't see either yet. Was AI the one with that kid from the Sixth Sense?

One I really do like is The Omega Man. I got it on DVD, it's old and kinda wierd but pretty cool. It throws the whole apocalyptic plague scenario out there.

Have either of you seen Cyborg with Van Damme? I know it's a Jean Claude Van Damme movie but it's kinda cool.
  16. #16
hmmm, the post apocalyptic plans on here very closely resemble my Zombie plan....

he he, too much Resident Evil. 😒
  17. #17
Yea, AI had the kid from Sixth Sense....

I like Millenium Man better than AI, but AI was much more apocolyptic.

Another strange apocolyptic move was Dark City. I loved that movie, even more so than a similiar movie that came out later called The Matrix.

I have a movie for you to find. It's called Delicatessen.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101700/

Post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who creates cannibalistic meals for his odd tenants.

The only downside is it's subtitled in English, but it's still worth seeing.

  18. #18
I'll definately have to check that one out.

I saw Dark City. I own it and really liked it.

I have yet to see a post apocalyptic movie where I said afterward, yah I could see that happening.
  19. #19
    rawr!!!!

btw has anyone ever seen a movie called six string samurai? It's kind of a post apocalyptic film but I remember seeing part of it on TV. I found it on IMDB and it looks pretty cool. I may give it a shot.
  20. #20
Heh, yep, I watched it on Bravo. It was pretty cool, at least to me....

  21. #21
Yah I'm a pretty big fan of surf music it seems to combine that with the post apocalyptic wasteland scenario. It's a neat movie.
  22. #22
Where the hell were you guys last night? I checked xfire at 1pm and it was empty of GRB players. What happened, get pwned or what? Does BF2 put you to sleep? Damn I was all wound up playing TAM and was looking forward to a couple of rounds.

    Oh well, sigh. 😕
  23. #23
Started off okay. I did not get on until 11 or so. We were in a pub and that was not too bad.

Then it started getting to be an air show so we tried to get our server started and that just got boring. I stayed in game waiting for a game to start but we only got one or two guys that joined, then quit right away.

We were in at 1 I think.
I was getting REALLY tired again so called it a night around 1:30 or so.

I am going to try to play a few rounds after dinner today, before the Steelers game at 8:15. Hopefully around 5 or 6 to get a few hours in for Mikey. If I am having a really good time I may just Tivo the game...

*All times mentioned in the above post are EST, thanks 😉

Sorry I missed SNF. The wife and I went out on the town the night before and did'nt get in until really early in the morning. We have'nt done that in a really long time and I think it did us some good. We dont do much with out our kids and we needed that night. I was really hurting Sunday though and did'nt get much accomplished, but it was fun.
  25. #25
    🤘

Good for you guys! It probably did do you some good. We don't do that often enough either as when we get to a point where we actually could go out, we are exhausted.

You did however miss a good night of gaming. The iCemen cameth and much lead did fly 🙂
  26. #26
Good deal Mikey. Those nights are so rare ya'd be crazy to skip it. Damn, nice memory too, a nite on the town in Germandy. Its worth the hangover once a year at least 🙂

  27. #27
Gee Mikey, get up early to game with maybe 3 of us or go out on the town with your wife? I just do not get your priorities sometimes man...

    😉

Sorry for my absence. My birthday was Friday... festivities were still a-rollin on Saturday night.
  29. #29
Well I did it again. Sorry I missed ya all I slept in. We have been working hard trying to get ready to get out of here and I guess I'm just not with the game right now.

Well our household is being shipped out this week so I wont be BF2ing for a bit. But I'll have the laptop to screw around with. It's a sad thing when you have to give up your baby for a few months, but it's for the greater good. I'm going home. Well until probably Jan, is anyone interested in any other games? Maybe BF42, I havent tried it on the laptop yet but it worked ok on my last one.

Its ok Mikey, no one was around last night. Sindy dropped by on xfire and after getting her 2142 setup we lost a few maps in it. I changed servers 3x last night. An ES clan was stacked on one side and just f'ing raping us noobs on the other side. Got kicked on another for lag on a titan map. These 2142 servers clans just seem to want to baserape and patstad, and that was frustrating tho.

  31. #31
Apparently it's a big problem with 2142. I read that EA was introducing n00b servers for level 10 or lower players to rank up without getting mauled.

I was getting some of that last night, though on BF2 and only when my team decided it didn't want to work, or we we outnumbers but a lot to a little.. a lot being 5 and a little being 2... with only one spawn point. Racked up my death counts pretty high... Some people can snipe with those assault kits pretty good. -Is there gravity in this game at all in regards to rounds-bullets-rockets? -I miss the gravity effect and ability to see your bullet trail in DF, oh and the rangefinder in the scope-

What is up with these infantry only people they all want to play in Karakas or something, and if you dont do IO then you get stuck getting run over or shot by Helos if you dont roll in a vehicle and if you do then you get stuck by Jets.. hah. Ah well there was one IO server that liked small maps and was fun, I will try to find that beast again, at least they did not run in the desert to often.

Atomm, it was very unlike GRB. I asked them 3x's to take it easy and split sides. No response. They were raping up 200:1 or higher. We finally told them to F off and left.

Your a sniper type right? Turn on 'no vehicles' in your server listings and try just city maps with IO. I think this would be the best way to break in BF2. There are hundreds of hiding spots for a sniper on any of those. If your in more in a team mood, I'd join you off of xfire, but snipers generally just hurt a squads effectiveness.

Also instead of the DF spotting scope, at least use your scope to spot with instead. While looking at a soldier or a vehicle, just use your "Q" key and select spot. At least that way a sniper can add something to the team. I get ragged on bigtime here for lone wolving it, but usually I'm trying to blowup the other sides assets or rag on them with a chopper 🙂. Now on IO its more fun to start a squad with medic or support. It also sucks being around tanks when I hate the AT kit, but if luck is close, Pal or Doc will back you up there.

The reason you see Karkland 24/7 in IO is simply these people are practicing nightly for thier matches. Its all about knowing the map inside and out, and redefining thier technics on those city maps constantly. In UT, there are hundreds of maps, but your hard pressed to find more than 6 of either DM or CTF on a server as most are practicing for thier TWL matches. Theres nothing wrong with playing one map if your in the mindset to play it that way 🙂

Now a sniper who hurts a squads effectiveness is bad.. but you get a good thing going and a sniper will save your butt more than once, especially when the other team is running snipers. I have been running the IO filter unless I get tired of Karkland, then I look elsewhere.. and you have to enjoy the claymores.. come on what better defense than a nice claymore hidden in the center of the road where noone looks as they are trying to cross.. heh. As for hiding spots in the city, there are plenty of bedrooms/windows to hide in and that oh so played out roof that just gets to me everytime I climb up to one because of lack of options.. I end up playing even more of an assault sniper role than anything else, and its killing my K/D ratio.. though i am of the mind right now to just ignore all that crap and hope I find another good team like last night when we had the Karkers pinned up behind the trains.. silly lemmings kept peaking out looking for me, even shot at me a few times before they died.. -sad part was I never moved and they kept trying to set up in the same place.

As for playing the smae maps.. it wasn't running with one map it was running with one landstyle.. desert. I have been shot at and took my own shots enough in the desert, both IRL and in-game.. I wouldn't mind some jungle at least I have gotten shot at less there IRL.
