The image below is from my stats on bfv.gametrack.org
My games from 12/20 were the first time that I consistently pwned a lot more than I got pwned 🙂 Played on the same server against many of the same people about a week before and played my usuall game with roughly equivalent kills and deaths. The differences between 12/13 and 12/20 I chalk up to two things:
1) I got my new MX510 mouse which I must say is sweeeeet and a huge jump over what I was using.
2) The four NVA idiots in the BTR on LZ Albany who helped me considerably by running over mines set by US Engi Sarge out not once or twice, but SIX TIMES! (that's 24 kills for those of you bad at math)
Played both rounds of LZA almost exclusively as an engi although played assault on the last 4-5 minutes of round two as NVA
Very Nice. XII is usually a slightly better than average server to play on too. Lot's of TWL peeps. Kind of funny that you pulled that off so many times. :-)
I honestly think what got them was that I sometimes caught them as they came in, other times as they left (which would then give me the bonus of a flag cap as well). I also was putting mines in places that people usually don't. This all happened at "The Knoll" flag on LZA and I was throwing mines everywhere I thought a vehicle might go. What is more amazing is that only 1 person on my team ran over a mine I put out, and he apologized!
Maybe they need a 8v8 ground only ladder. Actually I think it would even work if you got rid of just the attack helos on both sides and still used the jets and transport helos. I just think of how much fun hastings and irving would be if you didn't have to worry about that. Could you set up a Custom Combat server that way? Or does the CC just determine the soldier kits available? Will have to check into that as it could be fun as an experiment.
We can do custom combat and remove the air vehicles. I have to look into the CC tool from Black Bag Ops because the one provided by DICE is windows only. Do you think it would be popular? We could inquire at PB about it and see what people thought.
I think any maps with limited raping capacity would be popular, especially since it isn't a download for anyone. Can you pick and choose the vehicles left in, or is it all air or ground?
Ok, I need to do some research before I jack everything up. I want to make sure I can return it to normal for matches without jumping through hoops. Also, if we do this, we must do everything we can to get the word out. Seriously, we gotta promote the crap out of it.
Ok. You check out how to do it, and I will see if there is some interest at PBF as a starting point. I am sure we can also get some interest over at TWL, especially with some of the 5v5 clans.
Lets collaborate on how to best do it for each map. I have ideas, but nothing concrete yet.
Sarge, I was going to bring that up. I deffinately want to work with you and whoever else is interested via TeamSpeak on each map. Maybe an outline ahead of time of certain vehicles that we are looking to nerf.
For instance, do we take out air all together or do we change the Huey Gunship to a Huey Slick? Do we mess with Operation Flaming Dart? Or just add Huey Slicks in place of the Cobra's?
After thinking about this some, I would just make a couple of changes. First remove the Cobras and the Huey Gunships and replace them with Slicks and maybe a Loach. Also remove the MI-8 Attack helo and replace with the cargo version or even a slick. Second, I would maybe switch a US kit to include an SA-7.
Flaming Dart is a tough one. I would say don't run it, or replace all of the attack helos with slicks and the MIG-17 (towerkiller) with the MIG 21's
Definately willing to take some time and figure this out. You can do this via the Remote Server Manager correct? Have to look into what can be changed.
It can't be done via the remote server manager. He made a seperate tool just for custom combat, although I don't know how well it works. Also, it looks like we would have to do this on a windows box, then move the config file to the linux server and test it out.
I started a thread at PBF and it has received about half a dozen replies and almost 60 views at this point. Replies have been of the "make this change" and "I'll play" variety. I think we need to decide what should be changed, do it, and promote it as an event and see what happens.
I'm not sure that we can switch the weapons kits in Custom Combat. Looks as though you can allow/remove a particular kit or a weapon from that kit, but not add guns from other kits. Still trying to figure it all out though 🙂
Let's take a look at this for a second. We are trying to capture the enjoyment of 5 vs 5 on a public server. Here is a crazy idea. Let's remove all the vehicles. No changing kits, but just take away the vehicles and create a ground based game only. We may have to leave out a few maps, but it could be interesting. Irving and Flaming Dart could have transport boats, but nothing else.
Another reason I say this is if we start trading this for that and trying to change that into this, we are going to be up to our eyeballs in opinions. Where as, if we make a clear statement, this is a ground based server only, it is very clear to the players what it is about and the goals involved. I know it's radicul, but it leaves no room for opinion and ensures our effort to replicate 5 vs 5.
