    I purchased Half-Life 2 from the store, will I be able to play Day of Defeat: Source when it is released? Is there a difference between the retail version of Half-Life 2 and the version avaliable over Steam?

    If you purchased Half-Life 2 at a store (whether or not it was the Collector's Edition or standard), or purchased the Half-Life 2 Bronze Package over Steam, you own the Half-Life 2 Bronze Package. You won't be able to play Day of Defeat: Source unless you purchase the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Package.

    This doesn't imply you'll need to buying Half-Life 2 all over again; rather, you're paying the difference in cost between the Bronze package and the new package you want to acquire.

    EDIT March 1st '05: Valve MAY announce a new method which will allow owners of the Bronze package to upgrade to to a Silver or Gold Package.

    This is all Valve. It was posted long before that happened. Keep in mind, Steam is Valve's way of getting around dealing with a publisher like EA. It's a part of the reason they seperated with their previous distributor.

    I am just disappointed that buying the game is not enough to get DoD:s.

    I did read it was the difference between the bronze and silver package. I'm just not sure what that is.

    FYI, the difference between the Bronze and Silver package is $10. I hope they release a demo or something. I will say $10 for a quality in house produced mod really isn't that bad. It beats BF's $30+ to beta test...... 😛
