Last night I was entering my steam account and watching some low resolution trailers.
Not really very attend - I answered a chat invite and followed the link that was given there. A steam link leading to a page in UK - but written in german.

Bla bla ... they invited me for a steam golden membership and I had to give my account name and password. I - was stupid - really - and I did it.

After that my account - sure as hell - was gone.

Chatting with a norvegian gamer friend of mine - she told me: that "I" must have send her the same invite. Eventually so they did with all my friends who were online. Point is - I have not everybodies email address.

I did not have that many games - but a nice circle of frequently playing gamers. It sux most to think I could have lost them all.

I also went to steam support and filled out a ticket for a hijacked or stolen steam account.
This morning I found they had simply resetted my password - but ... not of the account in question - the hijacked one - but for another account I have with a similiar name but nothin on it. Beh.

How could I have been that stupid to give my password away ?

Well we all mistakes sometimes, and what seems obvious in hindsight may have seemed like a good idea at the time.

You seem to have learned from the mistake, and the damage seems to be minimal, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Sorry to hear about this. I think it's easier to let your guard down when you're in Steam - it's about gaming and having fun, and chatting with your friends. When you're in your email, or on the 'net, you know there's potential for nefarious schemes. Steam is a casual, fun-time gaming environment, and it's easy to forget that the same potential for abuse exists there.

You hit upon the magic words, though. Whenever anyone, anywhere asks for your password, you've got to switch your mind into defensive mode. I'm sure, after this, that won't be a problem.

Let us know when you've got you acct back.

    Yeah, got it back 🙂

It must have happened while I was on my sister's BBQ - lamb and chicken in strange sweet sour marinade and black beer and italian Grappa and Expresso.

Lots of children around and nice ppl (I am lucky with my family 😛), that made me forget my trouble. I was very upset - mostly with myself - and could not find any sleep - so I read and read and read in my old Edgar Allen Poe book I brought over from my last US trip. It is printed in 1929 and has yellow very thin paper and makes his stories even more mysterious.

When I came home, 22:00, my steam account was retrieved. Already in the afternoon a man from steam support had sent me a new password. I am so happy.

I think - it may not have happened if I would have been at home working with my computer, but here there are lots of things that distract me and so many ppl and so much impressions etc.

I am used to a desert like boring atmosphere. hahaha

Well aw - I was glad to be able to give my data - it was all in my head - and so I did not have to look for it - and so they were able to help me. But this zer0#69 send this phishing site to a friend of mine and he has the same problem now.

Please be aware that this shit wont happen to any of you guys.

Oh, we're already pretty sure it won't, since it requires our cooperation. Even if we would have done it before ( ), we won't do it now. 😀

Glad to hear your acct is yours again.
