For Those interested.. I'm looking into seeing what sort of appeal a "Tank Formation and Maneuvers Training session" would have to those who play FH. Most of the training could be done with Vanilla BF.. but FH with it's physics and setup more toward realism offers a far better training and playing field for such things... I will offer up various tactics for a majority of the newest FH maps.. Axis Tactics first... then later I will do the Allied.. I've seen many who consider them "good" at tanking but demonstrate no real skill in the use of tactics to create what I like to do..a genuine "fear" on the battlefield of running into your tank.. as well as the use of a formation to effectively route the enemy.. German Tank tactics of WWII will be shown..used and gone through..Nothing is set in stone yet.. just want to see who is interested.. and how many right now.. so post below if there is any interest..
That sounds pretty cool, I certainly would read it. Folks just generally hop in the tanks and flail away, using some teamwork and coordination would be great to see. Especially some armor/infantry mutual support which is a must in many of the FH maps.
Tank-Infantry Support is great.. I sometimes see it in FH..but othertimes it just amazes me the.. lack of common sense some have... I constantly offer to shield infantry in to a flag so we can capture it.. but most end up hanging back at some treeline.. or walking alongside my tiger when.. they could simply hop in and have an armored ride in.. complete with MG.. so hopefully something like this will help.. Have all sorts of formations and tactics that 90% of the time.. will destroy the battle plan of anything you'll see a team CAL..TWL or otherwise try t run.. I took a team of 8 guys.. 2 of which rarely play BF.. 1 just got the game.. 2 that played occasionally.. and 2 just playing because their friends were in the group..along with myself.. with zero practice time together beforehand.. and we completely domminated a clan on Battle of the Bulge that plays regularly online and travels to LAN's all over the area.. And we did so both as Axis & as Allies.. While we played as Allies they never even greyed the flag points we defended.. as Axis.. we plowed through what looked like to be them attempting to "recreate" what we had done.. Simply due to tactics & formations being used.. and this was Vanilla BF.. not even FH.. I only wish I'd of gotten a movie of it heh..
No date or time is set just yet.. hopefully within the next month.. depends on rl schedule and things get hectic around this time of year..
Somewhat off topic, but when you started talking about how dumb some people are using tanks, this reminded me of that. We have the same problem in Halo of course...
That'd be cool.. I'm sure that would get more people involved for sure.. I'll be posting this at gametrack & bftracks as well a few people are already interested there..
heh I dunno how many times I've mentioned the problems encountered with some players in BF when it comes to Bocage and the appeal of that damn windmill 😛
Get with me to schedule a date. A friday night might be cool, then once we go through the class, we could play FH. We can fit 64 players fairly easily.
Ok I think I may have a date I can do this so does Friday Feb 4th sound good? Most of my Saturday Nights are busy so if something were done on a Saturday. If any other dates work better let me know.
Its just for fun. The tanks in FH are pretty tough and if you know how to use them properly, you can be a really good player. Everclear has proven that to us before. This would be a public event, so we want to make the password public if we decide to lock it down. The only reason I can think to lock it down is to keep people from jumping in just to play.
Yep havin the server with a posted password sounds good. That way don't have just anyone wandering in.. wrecking havoc as try to demonstrate. But still allow those who are honestly interested access. Just remember this is aimed at more being a learning experience then gametime. I am trying to figure out how to do a sort of "war game" during which you use what I've shown and I can offer some pointers in fine tuning if needed. At the same time however I will try to have those present active in something so people dont get bored between showing the tactics and such
If there are those involved who aren't much for tankers but lean more towards the infantry roles. There would be mechanized infantry roles as well
Suggestions on certain maps you would like to see gone through would also be helpful. These could be maps you feel that you'd like to see tactics demonstrated on. I'm open for any input and questions just ask away.
Thanks again for the use of the server as well guys. Should be a fun night!
might start with a wide open map that allows plenty of space for maneuvers without running into stuff. I guess we aslo need a map with plenty of tanks on it. Everclear you probably know the maps better than anyone any suggestions to start with?
Operation Goodwood comes to mind. There is another one with a town in the middle and each side starts out with several tanks. I can't remember the name of it.
Sector 318, Operation Goodwood, Battle of the Bulge, Operation Nordwind, Breathrough Prokhorovka Tobruk, Orel, Valirisk, Supercharge, Desert Rose, perhaps the new Kasserine Pass. These would be some of the best choices.
Maps like Market Garden, and the Falaise Pocket I would consider maps that would involve more in-depth work involving Tank/Infantry coordination and be a seperate type of lesson.
So we going to do this at 9:00 CST next friday? Should I broadcast this to the general public? Or some selected clans/others that might be interested? I also am assuming that we will want everyone to be on TS for this to make communications easy.
9 does work for me.. and General public is perfectly fine I have already posted about it at gametrack and bftracks. I am not bothering to post on it at the FH Forums since I have a bit of a beef with the people there.. May sound silly but I get a vibe of "arrogance" there.. With people that spurt out "googled" tank facts left and right.. yet on the battlefield when I have played against them.. I've never seen them take those real life factuals and do anything to impress.. which is why I take a joy in smacking them around in the game.. and don't want to deal with a posting there.. that will end up getting nothing but critisim of "who do you think you are" since it seems to happen often there so.. general public is perfectly fine as long as someone can admin if someone enters and tries to be disruptive on purpose... Zero Tolerance for Smacktards 😛
cool. We likely will post it at a couple of clan sites and there is a running thread at PBF regarding FH that has a few people who seem to be interested in getting better at the game.
OK check out some of te maps, and my opinion for training would be Prokhorovka.
It's a daylight map wide open for maneuvering, 2 spawns with abundant tanks, so everyone has a ride, and they are a good mix of the tanks.
Sector 318: 3 Tanks U.S. 2 German rest are support Operation Goodwood: 2 Tanks per side but good terrain. Operation Nordwind: 2 Tanks per side Orel: NO Valirisk: Once we get tactics down, Central East side would be good, but a thin forest is lousy to learn in. Prokhorovka: My #1 suggestion to start with. Desert Rose: My #2 suggestion, wide open desert areas.
Battle of the Bulge: Did not look at. Tobruk: Did not look at. Supercharge: Did not look at.
Atomm what's the password going to be? Do you want to just post it on our site, or should I add it to a thread at PBF? So far there are a few interested people from the forums there.
That's perfectly fine.. though personally I won't have any tolerance for someone coming in and being disruptive during this so I think a "Zero Tolerance" rule should be in effect.
Also I have put together a pacdket of info for tonight to help give some visual aid when I'm talking about a few things.. Just need email address that it can be sent to... PM me or whatever works best for those interested. Maybe you could make it a downloadable file for people tonight.
Got your email. Do these just need to be posted somewhere convenient for people to reference? I have some jobs I have to go do now, and will check back later.
Alright EverClear. We got picked up by PB. All eyes are going to be on you. Don't forget, in addition to tatics, the most important thing people want to learn is how to use the tanks properly, what advantages/disadvantages to the tanks and where are the best places to shoot the other tanks. Oh yea, best way to approach situations.
I'd focus on the solo stuff as much as possible because team work is almost always a fleeting hope on a public server.
Cool I'm headed off work here around 8:50 or so.. so the latest I'd be there is 9:05 or 9:10 pm Central.. Boss needs me to record a show for the morning.. so just a heads up there... What's PB? PunkBuster?
If you got 12 picturees total that should be the packet.. each is number 1.-12.
No problem Welcome everyone.. Do hope it was helpful.. any suggestions or comments as to things could do next time would be welcome.. I actually had forgotten the outline I had drawn up to keep a flow going.. there's a lot of material that goes into becoming a better tanker..
The question about the reticle earlier.. I think.. Duck? asked.. was thinking of the best way to really explain the whole limited view question.. There are some cases where I don't end up using the reticle for fire.. for instance in close quarter situations.. you know the shot will hit middle of the screen.. so you can use that then.. with the MG fire as well.. I just use a slow back n' forth spread in the general area watching the tracers from the gunfire.. that lets me know any adjustments I need to make.. It's just something I do second nature and don't think of often.. so hopefully that explains it a bit better.. It really depends on the situation and if there is a need for range fire.. otherwise practice against a few bots up close to your tank and get a feel for where the shots land with the reticile off..
I'll let you know my future schedule in doing this again.. was fun!
Could but as you saw there is a lot of material that goes into the mindset of being a good tanker.. You have to... in the words of the Rock.. Know your Role.. Jabroni.. ok well maybe not the Jabroni part.. but still..
Know what your position is on the Battlefield.. avoid acting out of that role and you will live longer and have a greater impact on the outcome of the battle..
This is why I can get pissed when I see someone who I know from past experience uses a Command Tank.. and has no command ability.. The other night for example.. Battle of the Bulge.. I have no problem dominating this map in my King Tiger.. my best round score is from the map.. 92-73-3? The KT Can take a lot of punishment and dish it out as well..creating a strong "fear factor" where it goes.. as well as a "drawing factor" .. meaning the other team will turn most of it's attention towards the destruction of that tank.. Which means the person using it has to lead the way to capture points and secure the ticket bleed.. Well.. some guy named Nigorsky on WOLF.. was not only a sniper in the KT.. but spent the first 3 mins of the game near the spot where it spawns shelling the Windmill.. What does this translate too?
This player should be using the Wespe.. or the Brummbar to do such a task.. the Axis tickets are bleeding.. Allies are being allowed to set up a stronger defense.. precious tickets are being lost.. he finally moves along to the Southern Bridge point where he gets his 1.. and only kill.. before dying to a Sherman because he took the direct Road route..
True the Axis team was a joke as it was.. (they never even took the Windmill flag) But by the time the KT respawned from being in the hands of that joker for as long as it was... I had 35 tickets to get to one flag and capture it to stop the Bleed... this of course I failed to do so in time because it took me that long to destroy the dug in Allied Forces at the Northern Flag as I made my way into position to capture.. The Ticket Bleed is just that fast..
So that one single player.. completely screwed over the Axis team because he had no understanding to the role of the KT on that map..
Now some may say.. sure but it's just a game.. have some fun.. Sure you can have fun.. not a thing wrong with that.. But honestly.. who considers losing without any real teamwork fun? I may come off as an arrogant player for saying so but I strongly believe unless your playing privately with a bunch of friends.. your playing with people online who want to defeat the other team... want teamwork.. want to be able to depend on the guy next to them to capture points.. Not a group of sniper wanna-be's who run up to the windmill on Bocage.. If you don't feel so confident in doing so.. don't take the Tiger's simply because they have the most armor and will allow you to uber spawn kill a point.. Take them because your a leader and will show your team a direction to follow as a reliable team-member..
There is a lot of psychology that goes into that mindset.. and for me personally.. it's all about creating that image on the battlefield.. and giving the Tiger it's true Reputation.. of something to be feared..
I played Sector 318 last night. I tried to play Axis, but I got switched to allied. I reversed the tactics and it worked fairly well, except for one problem. I couldn't get anyone to grab the flags on foot and every time I left my post to try to take the flag, I got my ass blown off. It was great fun to see what you taught us working, but I still need some work on the changing views thing. I was trying, but there was just too many to keep up with by myself.
I would love to join you, but I can't stand playing without tags. I simply can't recognize the uniforms well enough and even thought I do use my minimap, I can't seem to get the hang of using it all the time. I so wish 3D maps were on BF42. When you get use to them, there is nothing like it.
Thanks for great training. I hope you will join us Friday night for BG42. I know it's not your cup of tea, but we are focusing on Ground Maps mostly with a few Tank maps thrown in. We are also looking to test Ghost Front on BG42. Raze made some changes and added tanks to both sides from the beginning. Think of it as a single subset battle from the BoB. I designed it based on my memory of the episode of Band Of Brothers in the Ardennes lines.
