I played 2 maps last night. The first one was Something Vahalla. It was an interesting map. It reminded me of Flaming Dart, but instead of an island, there was an Aircraft carrier close to shore with 2 capturable points. For the most part, it was a ground game. I don't remember any armour, but there were several Humvee's. The tree's were clumped together in thick areas. They made for great cover, but you could not go through them, only around them.

The second map was Alcatraz. Again, I don't remember any armour, but there were a few buggies. This map is one big circle and does a decent job of keeping the action focused. For the most part, it is a ground game with the US having to fight uphill through the MEC. For obvious reasons, this gives the MEC a slight advantage, but if you work together, you can take flags.

Both maps really seemed like Infantry based maps. I loved this about them. However, both maps were really, really hard on my system and a lot of people complained of lag on Alcatraz. Given the large number of static buildings, I can imagine why this was a problem.

If the rest of the mappack plays like these 2, it will be fun. I just hope we don't have a bunch of system problems.

I haven't tried them out yet, but your post worries me. I have been having low framerates recently and haven't yet completely determined the source. I must have changed a setting somewhere that is now biting me in the ass. Hopefully by Friday I can have it figured out cause the biting is starting to hurt.

ooo you know you like it Sarge, in that "hurts so good" way.

I will have to try it out, is this the plan for this week?

It is. It is also looking more and more like I will be there.

    WooHoo!

We can always start out with it and if it's unplayable, switch to vanilla.

Also, I would like to point out that I played on both sides under a random squad and in each case, there was a lot of squad based teamwork going on. That alone was rather fun.

I downloaded this map pack and played two different maps last night. One was the Codename Valhalla (I think), and it definitely was pure infantry. There are a couple of trucks/humvees scattered around, but no armor or air vehicles. Very fun even though I was getting pretty well pwned by a bunch of [wolf] guys. I have never been knifed so many times or seen so much prone spamming as I did last night. Ended the round about even on my k/d so it wasn't too bad in the end 🙂 Fun map though.

Second map that I played was called Operation Yellow Dragon and involved a US parachute into a relatively open area. Lots of Chinese armor and APCs, fewer US armor and APC's, but also lots of TOW sites  A line of three capable flags in the middle narrow stacked walls like on the beach flags on Oman make it fun for infantry in the middle.

I had very little to no lag on these maps although there were maybe 8-10 players per side max. Everyone was squaded up though and there was a lot of intense infantry combat, especially on the first map. Everyone was spawning on the SL and so you would attack a flag and there would be one guy, but three more would spawn in the middle of your attack making it tough. Very entertaining.

I played a few more maps last night, but I didn't catch there names. One of them had several helicopters. It reminded me why I prefer maps without helo's.

I also got tired of the prone spamming. Between that and the 2000 GL (aka Rocket Launcher), I became bored rather quickly. I hope Friday is more like my first night playing these maps and not like last night.

    can someone explain "prone spamming"

Remember in DC how you could rapidly mash Z and space and Z ..... to 'inch worm" along?
In place of going prone and crawling at a s-l-o-w speed you could keep up with and some times pass someone running on foot, but in a prone position.

Anti-Prone spamming will not allow that.

Played the Alcatraz map last night and it was quite laggy for me although I managed to do ok. The problem that I see is that there is no fog on the map and if it had some, it would be easier on your system.

We still up for playing customs tonight?

Please see Private Forums for Tonights BF2 info. Sorry, but customs are off. However, it should be fun.
