Ok. Jumped online at around 11:30 pm tonight - looked at our server and it was empty. Hopped into another server just to play a round or two. Play my two rounds, exit and get ready to go to bed but check on the server before i do. It's full 40/40. WTF? Not a single CAT or GRB there that I could tell. I wonder what sparked it? Not complaining at all, and if it wasn't 1:00 am, I'd be there.
This is a big thanks to everyone who used the server tonight and all nights in the future. Shoot, thanks for past use as well.
That happened after I set up the web admin stuff. I just changed it to 40 players because I found out it takes 10 to start the server regardless of 32 players or 40 players.
To be honest, we could probably push it up a few more slots if we wanted too. Want to try 46 players?
Then again, 64 player maps with 64 players, all urban. :-) That would be cool.....
It took me about 2 minutes to get in w/o bumping someone. Seems to be a pretty consistent 3-4 drop off at the end of a round and 3-4 jump on at the beginning.
Still very strange to me, but certainly very cool!
I use that BF2 to auto join when a spot opens up. Usually in a few minutes a slot opens. BTW the autoloader hasn't worked for me but has been an alarm telling me when to.. I say don't change settings just, if you can, set it up so it kicks low score when a member wants to join. plus the possibility of an empty server again.
Great. The Schlippittz throws a fit about nobody playing, announces his semi-retirement fro BF2 and now the server is banging. Is someone trying to send me a message, here? I'll try to get in there tonight (Tuesday) and bang some heads.

Our Beloved Duck has mostly permanently completely retired from BF2, although he has threatened to grace us with his presence on Friday Nights sometimes 😉
I added a line about BunnyHoppers not being welcome on the server to the intro text.
I also added a few more maps into the rotation.
However, I must restart the server for the changes to take affect. Since the server has not been empty, I can't restart it. I'd hate to kick everyone and then we have an empty servera again. :-)

Can you add an admin message w/o restarting? Maybe say something like "The Server will be restarted at 6:00 PM EST to add maps into the rotation" or something like that.
I dunno what happened but you guys went from no one on your server to too full to get on!!!!! 🙂 It is worth the wait though.....great games all the time!!!

Yeah, I'll jump in there and run around starting around 8:30 Eastern. I haven't posted in the PBF thread as of yet. I go there, start reading, try to get myself banned in a rage...and then Spandex deletes or edits all my nasty posts. It's like having your mother keep jamming a bar of soap in your mouth.
I think anyone I ever had a run-in with over there hit puberty, discovered girls and is off doing something worthwhile with their time. Except for Ruxpin. He ignored biological drives and migrated to our forum.
I'm going to try and get on 7:00-8:00ish to play for a while. Hopefully you guys in the LAN will pop into our server and we can get things started there for the night.
Had a pretty full server for a long time last night. Played Karkand and Sharqi with a full server - some viscious infantry battles that's for sure. Having the LAN guys really helped get us sarted as well as a bunch of OC clan guys. Starting to notice a few names returning to the server. The F/K guys have been around a couple of times and were back last night. generally good stuff.
Just dropping by to say that I had a great time last night. It's good to see the server getting filled up again. Hopefully, it's an ongoing trend. We had some excellent battles going there.
Turning on VOIP was interesting. We ended up chatting with some guy from Australia who was a good team player. Perhaps having it on will help attract more regulars, as one "serious" player that frequents our forum has been asking for it to be enabled for awhile.
I'm hoping to get on later tonight :cry: , but might not make it due to having to go somewhere earlier.
Not having VoIP was pretty much a dealbreaker for myself and the people that run with me. We will probably be back around a lot more often now with it on. Now if only I can keep trying to persuade getting some 64 mapsizes with 46-48 player limits... 😉
As the cat guys know, great server and I look forward to playing with you GRB fellas more in the near future.
It's Friday. That means 2 things for all CATs: Beer and BF2!
IRT gimmic; My only gripe with 64 player maps is that if the server population is only 20 or so players, the maps can take eons to finish. In the case of a map like Kubra Dam, after half an hour I'm already searching for razor blades.
I jumped on near the end of the first round of Karkand. EverClear owned us at the rail crossing with the tank. At one point I counted 6 anti tank guys taking him on and he took care of all of us. WOW!
I finally got fed up and went with the old standby, Jihad Jeep. :-) That took care of him. I start yelling Go Go Go to all the guys on the bridge. I wanted to get back to the Tank spawn before EC did. Wouldn't you know it, here he comes again. Sheesh.
Determined to not get our butts handed to us on the second round, I jumped in the Commander spot at the very beginning. I'm not that great at it, but I worked my butt off to make sure I spotted all the flankers and kept the UAV and Artillery going nonstop. I didn't do a great job of giving the squads directions, but I managed to get a few that followed orders. Those squads made all the difference. That and the guys who took out the stragglers as I pointed them out. We got the win and kept the back base the whole time. That was a small victory for me. :-)
I had to leave after that, but it was great fun....
I'm still trying to get the house ready to sell it, so I don't know when or if I will be on, but I will do my best.
keeping that back base is the key to the MEC maintaining any sort of control over that map. You lose that and its all over unless you are playing with like 5 guys a side.
I'll be loading in some time between 8 and 8:30 Eastern tonight. We're all praying that 25th Soldier doesn't buy the 9% abv beer tonight. His level of play doesn't really diminish, but he becomes a liability in Ventrilo, if you know what I mean.
I can't force myself to play Fu She or Dalian anymore. I don't think I've ever played anything but those two and Mastuur on the CAT house. I can't force myself to choke down another two rounds each of those maps. I'll be back if the good maps come back up.
I dunno if it was a coincidence or a combination of things but I liked it.
CAT had a bit of a problem with someone over at the Teamplayfirst forums which ended in lots of people coming forward singing our praises and having our server added as a TPF affiliate.

I am sure it's the underpants thought - that has put us over the top. Only if they are speedo style with a big Union Jack on them though.

Back on topic....Will be on the server this evening beginning around 8:00 EST. Will run around on Karkand for about an hour before I have to disappear for a while. Will idle on the server though to help reach the magic number. Should be back 10:30 or 11:00ish to play for a while more.
Actually Sarge, It was.... I tried searching for Studded Codpiece and that was the first site I found. After that, I decided it was not worth the horror to look further.
I vaguely remember Rob Halford wearing a Red Studded Codpiece back in the Judas Priest hayday, so I thought your post would lead me to some good pics. What I found was that same guy did a second top 10 worst metal pics. No spiked cod pieces. I thought about posting it in your thread, but the number 1 pic was a Black Metal guy who was so dedicated, he kept on singing, even when his twig and berries popped through his busted jeans.

Looks like Bubba hit the nail on the head. If my reading of the insomnia365 forums is any indication, the Level3/Cogent hissy fit has shut down part of the internets "peering" (Don't know what this is really) and this is affecting access to the server. I really don't have the faintest idea as to what the guys are talking about in the forum so I could also be completely wrong. Sounds like the two companies need to turn on their stuff and figure out what the issue is before anything will be resolved.

Ok so here is a quick and dirty explanation, as I understand it. I know this is way over simplfied. Basically these large ISPs all have large fiber backbones. And our ISPs and many companies rent bandwidth from them. so in essence they have become a large part of the backbone. Now all of these large ISPs have found it more efficient to work together than to find routes around each other. So for the most part when the isps mesh their networks they will make agreements about if one is bigger than the other they will trade money to even out the workload/money spent aspect. In some cases they decide they will pass on as much bandwidth as they recieve so they call it even. Level 3 and Cogent had a deal where they called it even. Now one of them has decided it was carring a large portion of the other traffic so they cut them off. Now the large routers will adjust to these severed points but now your ping will take several extra hops to get to it's location. Think about severing a interstate, you would have to take local roads aroudn that severing. Now neither is willing to accept the others traffic until the other one accepts theirs. think baby cold war. Eventually they will lose customers and tehy are getting bad PR so I would imagine soon they will relent and figure it out. Atomm, Raze, feel free to tear this explaination a new one.
gotta try during the evening. Thursdays and Fridays are more likely to happen although once and a while on other nights too. A lot seems to depend on the number of CAT's out and about as we tend to have a lower profile on the weeknights. I myself have not played BF2 in over a week for a variety of reasons, although I have wanted to.
Plan to try and play later and will idle on the server for a bit, but I have a bunch of stuff to do first 🙁
Hoping to be on tonight but the wife wants to watch a movie :/ so who knows what time it will be. Haven't played since the beginning of the week and am itching to blow stuff up 🙂

I had to go in the middle of the night to take my wife some baby supplies she forgot. She was on her way to her folks 2 hours away. When I got back, everyone had left except Goobar. As usual, he pounded me into the ground with Artillery.
However, I did manage to place first on one round. See, I get rid of all you noobz and I play better. 😛
