Man they are packaging that game with a lot of extras! I wonder if it is due to concerns over a lack of interest from the community? What's this about an in-game "Rank Up"? sure let's immediately give some people an advantage over others 😒

I'm having a hard time generating any positive feelings for this game.

Let's hope that this is like when BFV came out and a large portion of the BF42 community continued to play that game.

Well, you know I going to have to buy this darn thing. I gotta do a review at the least.

FYI, if you are interested in this deal, give me a bit to put together the affiliate link to Game Stop. We have $18 just sitting there from previous pruchases. Might as well add a few more to it.

You know at first I thought I'd pass 2142 by, but the new Computer Gaming World has a good article on it.

Dice says they have not made the same mistakes as BF2
    The browser is

    "600 times faster than BF2"

Thing I find interesting is there will only be 4 classes but each class is dual classed they give example as Sniper/Special Forces.
The dual class has both abilities. With each kit

"having access to 40-45 varieties of guns and gear that when combined and recombined magnify the infantries means to the enemies end"

    also in the article:

2142's mix-and-match gear not only offers ongoing incentive to rise through the ranks at a much greater speed than BF2 but for players to work together too. sustained COMMITMENT TO THE SQUAD (and adherence to the leaders commands) generates points for the group. Which members can then spend on equipment otherwise accessible to players with higher rank. And while access lasts only as long as you stay in one squad, (perks persist across one map to the next - as long as your in the same squad) giving the opportunity to test drive new weapons before "signing on the dotted line"

I still think I'll let it come and get play tested for a few months BEFORE I buy it, but I like the dual class.
I already see allot of Medic/Support or Anti-Armor/Support classes

In the magazine they show the four major classes as Recon|Assault|Engineer|Support

Hell here's a scan from the mag:

It looks to me from the picture they are highlighting the Assault player and the four boxes on the right of the gun are user populatable, and the selections are in the lower box:
Nades or Smoke or Extra ammo or (extra) Sprint or I can't figure the last one out - It's some figure in the air with arrows pointing at each other like this -> <- Maybe extra stamina for jumping or jump height?????

Notice the sprint bar below the gun the Recon is full where the other 3 are 1/2 full. Also notice the Assault guy has a [+] Medic symbol in his gun icon.... Things that make you go hmmmm.....

Oh and they got Nukes too:

I too am going to wait on BF2142, even if not by choice. I can't imaging being able to shell out the $$$ before Christmas time at the earliest.

That info on the classes and kits is interesting, and I like the ability to customize although 40-50 combinations seems like a bit of overkill to me. On the other hand, it probably doesn't take a huge amount of equipment to make those combinations so maybe i'm wrong on that point.

I also like the gaining points and experience for teamwork and the bonus points for sticking with a squad over multiple maps. I can already see the complaints about fairness and balance about it though. This will be a huge incentive for clans to load one side and dominate, especially if you lose your in-game perks/bonuses for switching sides - or being auto-switched.

I do like some of the evolving concepts of this game, I just hate the "Rat Bastard" aspects of when it is coming out and the "support" that EA has shown for the BF2 community.

My one prediction: Air power will be massively unbalanced

Sarge, you bring up a good point. How fast do you think it would kill a server when a bunch of clan players have been playing and have the best weapons on all their players while a bunch of n00bs just connected and get the stone axe and rock sling?

  6. #6
I think that will certainly kill things very quickly for pubbers

This will really benefit those that have a solid community of players - like PBF, where a large group of the same people consistently play. In those cases, there are relatively fewer random pubbers on at any given time, so those that are there aren't likely to get hammered by being on the wrong side of an organized ass beating when they join.

This will also be positive for those clans that willingly split up and have squads on each side (such as us for instance).

Who knows though? With all the weapon/equipment combinations that you potentially have, you are never quite going to know who or what you are going up against? Just because there is an assault or heavy weapons guy running at you doesn't mean that they aren't carrying some C4 or a med kit. That will certainly help balance things.

Off Topic: That made it into a print article? The editor should be beaten with a grammar stick. Sorry, it was bugging me 🙂

A couple of new things to add to 2142.

Here is a registration link to become a BETA tester for PC 2142.

    http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/bf2142/

Although from what I gather the line is long and wide. SO unless you have a lot of fileplanet "points" your back of the bus material.

Here are a few VERY THUROUGH links for the weapons and vehicles from the select few ALPHA and BETA testers.

    http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=40098

    http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=40222

And to answer my own question from earlier:

Nades or Smoke or Extra ammo or (extra) Sprint or I can't figure the last one out - It's some figure in the air with arrows pointing at each other like this -> <- Maybe extra stamina for jumping or jump height?????

Here is an explanation of the symbols from the magazine scan.

    Hand Grenades
Hand grenades (frag), make you always have 2 grenades with you when going into battle.

    Extra Hand Grenade
Extra hand grenade (frag), an addition of an extra grenade, i.e. giving you a total of 3 every time you go to battle.

    Larger Pistol Clip
A Larger pistol clip (unkown how much larger)

    Increased sprint
Increased sprint amount (makes you sprint for a longer period)

    Sprint recharge
Sprint recharge (Makes you recover faster)

So unfortunately were still stuck with stamina in 2142.

This is seeming more and more like a RPG than a FPS. Hey! Maybe we'll get some of the people back that we lost to WoW! 😄

    good links Duck.

That is a very interesting statement to me given that I was in an IRC channel on Sunday that had a guy that was doing the beta on 2142 and that is exactly what he said. He said that getting upgrades is different more like an RPG than they are currently. He was talking to somebody else in the channel, but I copied and pasted it into ours. I don't know if it actually went though, because as I pasted it I got disconnected. Too much data at once I guess, it was like 31 lines. I should have saved it to a word doc so that I could have put it on here, but I didn't even think about that. It was interesting to read what all he had to say. I invited him to come and play at our server, but he said he was really wrapped up in the beta. Oh well, I tried. 🙂

Uggggg.. I HATE RPG. It creates too many unfair advantages for novice or casual users. RPG, you either love it, or hate it. RPG has been mixed with UT since 2003. Ruined that aspect of the game. However, if the serverside can keep it disabled, closer to BF2, then I'd have no problem with it.

I like less classes that can carry more or different.. That would be pretty nice. Assault carrying AT or C4 would definately be a plus.

I just hope they improve the frontend and add a buddy list. Just hope this doesn't turn into another BFV. With UT07' delayed until Apr07, I'd like something different to fill the void. Something where everyone starts out new and fresh, unless they apply BF2's points and ranks.. That would literally suck.

That's interesting Sin. It make sense though. WoW is extremely successful and EA is trying to bring elements of that into this franchise. As long as they don't do a pay-to-play with a monthly subscription, I think they will be fine.

I still need to get irc up and running btw.... 😒

I really feel like EA is slowly working towards a MMOFPS, aka Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter in the vain of a MMORPG. The question was posted on PBF a while back about what people thought of such a thing. The response was fairly negative. Like all of us, we play FPS for a reason and the carrot on a stick concept of a MMORPG does not appeal to us.

Why is this a big deal to EA? Because MMOXXX's are the holy grail of games. It creates a monthly revenue stream, rather than a one shot purchase income stream. Mark my words, EA is going there.

    And I'm not.

Yup kicked that one square in the crackers Atomm. I know I'd have been a WOW junky had it not been for the subscription price.

Look at South Korea. They are suppose to have a crazy freakish online gaming community there and damn near 99% of their games are all Pay to Play.

Rat Bastards must be salivating like hungry dogs at that, and with a credit card gamer base, it'll happen.
Then it's back to Hoyles 2003 card games for me.

  17. #17
Well, there is a bright side. Every MMORPG EA has put their hands on has tanked once they got involved. The one's they made themselves from scratch, even the oh so great Sims Online tanked. If you ask me, EA and MMO don't go together.

You see, Marketing can't figure out how to pump up a game that is ongoing.....

Here is a great video of the bits and kits of BF2142

    http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=...attlefield+2142

The game mode is called Titan I believe. Other than the typical flag hopping of BF2/Dc/1942 you have a single objective.

Destroy the big floaty thingy (Titan) or Keep your big floaty thingy floating....
The video shows the kits the vehicles and the 2 modes of play.
Basically out side and interior fighting.

I'm kind of getting psyched for this game, you see I've been a Battle tech gamer (from FASA) all the way back when it was a pencil and paper game, then moved up to the painted figs and dice.

I was disappointed with Battle tech 1, 2 and 3 but bought them anyway. Now it looks like the ET|QW and BF2142 may come closer to what I've always wanted in a Sci-Fi multilayer shooter.
    🤘

I also noticed the Assault players is the team medics also and one of the weapon upgrades for the Assault player is better/faster healing/more players at once med kit for assault..... kinda' cool.

Dig the Active Cammo at 4:00 min in. Any predator movie fans here?

    EDIT:

Just found a REAL 2:00 Min of actual Beta game play. Which is much better than the marketing video of above.

Holy Shit Batman! UT meets BF. Looks like a merge of Onslaught/Assault with BF and Mechwars.

I just bet this game is going to be buggy as hell, but I'm going to buy it.

It's EA I would expect NOTHING less the the least they can produce.... LOL
