To Wake or not to Wake, that is the question

Well, I went through the custom map map tonight. I've got to hand it to you guys on Ghost Front - friggen awesome map. I'll write something up on it tonight & post it here, but in another thread and on our forums and www.pdxclan.com

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. "Wake another day" hrmmmff

While the night concept is definately cool (I've always liked the RTR map Monte Cassino) - and the moon and stars are definately way kewl, I don't think Wake will play well. The reasons are twofold:

    1) The Allied uncapturable. This just kind of ruins it. Allies always have a spawn, and that's the way Wake has always been. I just don't think this will hang.

    2) Just way too many friggen planes. Heck, the axis have 5 planes to start out with, and with a very speedy 20-30 second respawn, I can tell you it will be parachute hell. Tanks won't know what hit them with engineers dropping like flies on top of them.

    Anyway, my $.02

I like the other map selections. Maybe substitue Battle for Korsun or Dam Busters? LOL. Anyway, I guess we'll see if my prediction holds.

Just wait for the write-up on Ghost Front. Yahoo!

I agree with you on both points. I was a little disappointed with the uncapturable airfield. But, I think the middle briges change the dynamics so much, it may not be a factor.

As for 2, I picked it for that exact reason. I love fighting on the ground and in a tank, but I know other people enjoy planes. I feel like I need to try to keep it balanced for everyone to enjoy, so I always try to include a map with a lot of planes. I ran out of pacific maps and plane maps, so I went for something really, really different that fit the bill. Let's hope it works. :-)

So, Tman, What did you think after playing it with a few people? I really enjoyed it, but I wish we had 20 on each side. That would have been intersting. The fight for the Church was really fun.
