Not sure if this will get lost in this thread, but the other option that is coming is Enemy Territory | Quake wars.

A good (not stellar but very good) demo video is here:

    http://www.planetquake4.net/download.php?o...id&lid=2333

Mind you it's 284 MEG but it's the Quakecon demo from the devs on the game and actual game play video.

Interesting points (for those that don't down load)

There will be no stamina. They figure a military person would be able to haul ass for more than 30 seconds at a time

Different levels of sprint (based on what your carrying) As an example they show a sniper with the shoulder mounted weapon draws it in close and runs at X speed, but if you change to a pistol and sling the sniper rifle the run speed is X+2 which in real life would be the same. You run faster with the heavy weapons secured on your body.... Good thinking good programing.

Don't know if I like this one but the way the maps are made is that they have specific zones of capture to keep the flow. Unlike BF2 now where it's flag hopping paradise. All maps on ET|QW are specific zones of capture-control.
EG: You must build the bridge in zone 1 before going thru the tunnel in zone 2 to destroy the shield in zone 3.
You can not destroy the shied in Zone 3 before 1 and 2 are completed. They say it keeps the fighting and game play focused.

Will have to see how others like that style.

There are three distinct fighting modes.
Ground, Air and interior buildings ( EG: COD United Offensive inside buildings combat (Reference minutes 20 - 23 in the demo video)

Interesting vehicle damage (At video time 26 min)
Shows a 8 wheeled troop transport taking wheel damage, the wheels go flat and the vehicle dynamics act accordingly. Lists to the low side, less stable, less speed, turning radius increases.

    (At Video time 36 min)
They show the three placeable implements:
Arty - Which is good for killing Humans
Rocket Arty - Which tracks moving targets air and ground vehicles (I like the tracks part.... no more wasted arty shots)
Strategic rocket - For fixed industrial targets and primary objectives.

This is cool because they can be placed (it appears) anywhere on the map. BF2 you know where the UAV, ART ETC is always going to be. Here it is where the engy builds it. They do not say if there is a cap on the amount of emplacements you can make though.

Duck, that is an awesome recap of the video for QW:ET. We have been watching it and consider it the next big jump from BF2. It's a shame it was delayed until next year, but I'm willing to wait if it means a great game. BTW, Hope you don't mind me splitting that post out to it's own topic.

    No Atomm thanks a lot.
I was wondering if the review would have gotten lost in the other post. Thanks for bringing it to the front.

I am undecided on this game.
I'm one of those saps that get woozy while playing the quake engine.... but from what I see it looks like they have taken all the wrongs of past multiplayer military type games and corrected them (some what...)

Any idea when the game will be out?
Hope they have a demo multiplayer.
As you know I buy only one big game a year, so the decision is QW or 2142....

I'll try to dig up some more info on it if you all are interested.... it'll give me something to do.

I thought someone posted a while back that QW was delayed until 07 sometime?

Duck I know what you mean about 1 game per year, I do the same thing. I actually try to do less if I can 🙂 BF42 lasted close to 2 years, but BFV was about a year iirc. Looks like BF2 has passed a year and will be close to 18 months before I can or be willing to do any switch over.

I think we're all looking forward to the release of this game. They give any somewhat concrete projections on release. And Yes, yes, I know "When it's done". But I was wondering if anyone heard a ballpark. I'm itching for something other than BF2.

I read March 07 somewhere, but I don't remember where.

Duck, I'm with you about the Quake Engine. The outdoor stuff was fine, but the indoor stuff was iffy. I'm hoping this will be better.

    2006 = 2142
    2007 = QW: ET

See, it works out well. :-)

LOL Hey Sarge maybe we can have our cake and eat it too.

Spring for 2142 in '06 and then point to the calendar and say "well dear it is 2007 now and get QW.

    😀

    😄

sad thing is that I very likely will have to resort to that 😒

This is what I was looking forward to in 2142, but it was more human vs: human.

Here are some screen shots of the Strog (Alien bad guys) and what are called Icarus squad.

    YAH BABY!

    Man, that looks cool.

The real interesting thing about QW is the background.
It's mapped as a singular surface, that is it's own layer, and the game takes place on top of the layer.
No more drawing the background and players and etc etc etc.

It's "suppose" to promote much smother game play and smother player animations.

Really want to try the demo when it comes out.

Yes it is too bad that the technology will not allow them to have a 32 player game let alone 64.
Sorry but 24, or whatever number of players they will allow, is just too lame these days.

I am looking forward to this game a lot but I think 32 should be a minimum for any game.

I read some stuff about the way they designed the game. It uses the Doom3 engine, which is way cool, but was not designed for outdoor maps. They tweaked it and were explaining to John Carmack about the level of detail they were getting. He said it was impossible. The funny part is they proved him wrong and he created the game engine, then they pushed it beyond what he ever imagined.

I'm really excited about this one.

    Bad link. 😉

I am really disappointed in the number of players though as I said. That will really hurt the game I think.

The game itself looks very cool and I am excited for it. Probably more than BF2142 but we will see. QW will not have any ranking system and that is fine by me but will only devoted players play lesser roles like medic etc.. I admit I am not sure exactly how the game will really play so this is all un-informed opinion.
  15. #15
Um I think it WILL have player rank.

I just deleted the 20+ gig demo movie from G3 but I am almost positive the devs giving the demo said "as a player moves up in rank..."

Too bad about the timing of this. UT07 will probably come out march/april, and that will get my attn and gaming buck. The quake engine leaves too much to be desired, no alt fire in weaps, no good movements, etc. I'll try the demo, but doubt I go any further that that. Doom3 engine wasn't anybetter with moves either.... it was prettier 😄

07' on the otherhand, does have a new engine, and the graphics and ingame movements are going to be groundbreaking. After 1.5 yrs of BF2, I sure as hell don't want another war sim game.

I doubt the lack of alt-fire is something they could never add. They just haven't so far. I agree, and I haven't bought a version of Quake since Quake 2, but I figure if the occasion calls for it, they'll work out how to use the right mouse button. I would hope so, anyway.

I'm looking forward to seeing what '07 brings, but BF2 has really changed my gaming preferences. You know how much I played UT before. I hardly play it these days.

DAMN looks like it zorched the video too soon.
Going to go find it and DL it again. Because I'm almost positive that the demo also had a zoom feature when they were calling arty, and close up with the sniper rifle......

    Will report. You decide.... 🙄

    HEY! YOU!
    Yah you!

You HAVE TO check out these two videos.
Take from the same game but from both sides, they are "How to play tutorials" for each side and each class.

I think there freaking awesome. And gives a good feel for how the classes are suppose to work together.
(No info yet on the zoom, in the video they show players using F7 to bring up binos and rifles for sniping, so that may be their idea of zoom is an F key for zoom.)

    http://files.filefront.com/GDF+Tutorial+2+...;/fileinfo.html

    http://files.filefront.com/Strogg+Tutorial...;/fileinfo.html

And those Icarus flying packs are available and used in the Strogg demo... YAH BABY!

    (Still DL'ing the gig'un (again))

I find that I was nowhere nearly as excited for 2142 as I am for this game. Time will tell, and hopefully a demo will too.

I know it has rankings but I was under the impression they only lasted for the current game, and once you leave, you lose them. I did not think you kept them after wards and no stats were stored.
I am probably totally wrong here and hope I am 😉

I have not really been into the ID software titles for some time. Quake has been so so.
I know that QW:ET is done by another company but we will see what they do with the Doom 3 engine. I am always open minded with these things.
Must all be MAC people to not use the other mouse buttons like Alt-fire 😉

As or UT2007 I am looking forward to seeing what they do but I have to be honest , the UT series is so shoot em up. Seems the same old jump around and shoot BS. Gets old REAL fast. I can honestly say boring. Now it does have few game types that I thought were fun in small doses.
Jailbreak is a blast, we do not play it. Assault is fun, we do not play it. That new mod seemed really fun, we do not play it. Add the CHAOS mod with all the weird stuff and that was really fun for awhile. We do not do it.

All in all though the UT games are just..okay. Great looking, well done, seems to play very smooth but even with all the EA BS and bugs, BF2 just seems much more immersive and fun. I do not get that with UT. UT is just a sci-fi-ish shoot-em-up to me. Do not get me wrong, I like it and will buy UT2007, but unless it really changes the overall feel to it, I probably will play it just once in awhile.

I have one thing to say about UT. CTF..... Yea!

OK finally got around to DLing and looking at the demo again.
And yes there is a right click zoom not just F key zoom in the game.

At time 5:17 he zooms a pistol and at 8:57 he zooms a rifle.
