Marcus Nilsson (Senior Producer BF2142): No, it's not that we are necessarily very bad, we're not, but there is a very vocal minority on the forums who say 'EA is crap' and 'DICE are lazy', but they're all probably playing the game every day already anyway. We have minor problems, sometimes we have big problems, but minor problems are not what people should write about. Maybe they should write about why they're playing Battlefield every day. But that's human nature, I guess - you have a vocal minority and a silent majority.

Wow..... Basicly, he just said they ignore those of us to comment on the game in an effort to try to make it better. People are pissed off about this on the EA UK Forums.

    Is QW: ET here yet?

No not yet... Trying to figure out when thought.....Anyone know the ship date? Demo date?

    I 2nd that Bubba.
After testing 2142, I'm glad I did not pre-order it.

I can only hope ET|QW is decent or that they decide to make COD3 a PC game also.
So far it's just scheduled for the Xbox 360....

I was just pissed off to see that the US wasn't a power in the future. Fuck that shit, if Europe is a force then we better damn well be. So no, I won't be playing 2142

Although it will never happen, I'd LOVE to see 2142 debut and fall flat on it's "face" no one buys it, no one plays it.

Go directly to the bargain bin, do not pass go, do not collect $50 -er $200 dollars.

EA didn't waste anytime trimming the fat from DICE:
BluesNews wrote:On the morning of Oct 2nd hours after EA finalized the buyout of DICE, it closed the Canadian subsidiary DICE Canada (Developers of BF: Vietnam and BF2: Special forces). There where 28 employees at the Canadian office.

    Regarding the 2142 Demo:

    Fuck EA.

And I mean that in the most vehement way I can.
Dice may suck too, but to buy them out and screw them in the same breath.

    Fuck EA.

Do we move to another game? Or should hold back from bitting the hand that feeds us?

I've decided on anything BUT 2142.

COD3 if it's released for PC.
    Navy Field (downloading now)
ET|QW is a good looking game right now.

    Anything but 2142.

lighten up!!!! i think its the most important point he can make. it seems as if he were defending the game and its programers. and he has every right when the "vocal minority" says dumb shit like "fuck ea" and "dice sucks". i love bf2. and yes. i play it all the time. he got everybody there. when was the last time anybody here helped make a kick arse game like bf2? btw... i didnt see where anybody said they ignore comments made by intelligent and insightful gamers looking to make the game better. besides IMHO it comes down to one thing.... do i enjoy playing the game?. if i do... its worth my few bucks.

When Atomm, Sarge, Bubba, Raise, and I worked with the BG42 team.
When Atomm, Sarge, Bubba, Raise, and I worked on Battlefield Conversion for ourselves and the community.

EA is nothing but a corporation. They are money whores - so when I say FUCK THEM! I mean it from the bottom of my feet to the top of my bald assed head.

They don't care if they make a good product, they only care if they make a marketable product. If it's flawed oopsies - there bad, but they KNOW the lemmings are going to buy it and play it and suck their ass because it's new and shiny and has the new game smell.

Not me this time. EA has stepped on it's "crank" one too many times for my liking. Buying Dice and firing the team was just another dumb assed move by a dumb assed corporation.

Trauma Studios the ORIGONAL Desert Combat developer who was swallowed up and spit out by EA is at it again as Kaos Studios under the protection of THQ.
They still have the sole of gamers, and are releasing a BF2 type game in 2007, I can only hope that THQ has enough capitol to keep the Rat Bastards at EA away from them during distribution. It looks like it has the potential to be the game BF2 could have been had EA not fucked it up.

Kaos Studios, a division of THQ Inc. located in New York City, was formed in 2005 by industry veterans of the FPS genre. The core members of the group came from Trauma Studios, creators of Desert Combat (one of the most successful mods of all time from the original Battlefield) and the R and D team for DICE's Battlefield 2. The 50-person team includes additional members from the development teams of other acclaimed shooters, including FEAR, Medal of Honor and Doom 3. More information about Kaos Studios and its products can be found at www.kaosstudios.com.

    Fuck EA

    Pauwder,

This is about more than just BF2. It's about a history of saying one thing, then doing something entirely different. It's about releasing buggy software and taking forever to patch it properly.

This is also about accountability. I love the Battlefield Series and I have always been quick to defend DICE, but the fact of the matter is these issues have plagued the Battlefield Series in every single game released. It took a year and a half to get a patch out for BF42 that actually made the game play well.

Also, this is about comparing DICE/EA to their peers. Aka Valve, iD, Epic, etc. Yea, Valve had a few problems with releases, but they fixed them quickly. iD and Epic release quality games and not beta's disquised as games.

This is where the animosity comes from. We are tired of being told one thing, then the second everyone buys the game, they go back on those promises.

    So, color me Jaded....

Yeah it's funny every response in here I can agree with. But the most striking is pauwders. I agree with every line of his. But as Atomm so elequently put it, EA has lost our trust. It's not that we are un-trusting neigh-sayers... it's that EA has literally expended effort to piss us offf. Yet we still have gone back to the well over and over again. This time I am not. I will wait for someting else or I will have spare time for another hobby. Maybe I am just too old for gaming as EA seems to be telling us.

    never mind...

This is as bad as people that go to McDonalds over and over to eat Big Macs all the while bitching how bad it is for you. You go because you LIKE IT!
All the bad just comes along for the ride. Sometimes that is just life.

well. i see what the fuss is about. i hardly pay enough attention to the politics behind the scenes of any game. bf2 was really buggy when i first started playing (1.3). since 1.4 ive been happy with it. if only they could toss it a real live functional server browser!!!! i could only see myself being hardcore fuck-EA if they push money around to stop better studios from releasing better (similar) games. BTW those screenies look sweet!!!

They don't care if they make a good product, they only care if they make a marketable product. If it's flawed oopsies - there bad, but they KNOW the lemmings are going to buy it and play it and suck their ass because it's new and shiny and has the new game smell.

i dunno about that. honesty... there has been very few games of mine that worked great right of outta the box. hell there are a ton of games that hardly work well on any machine. as for good product / marketable.... well sure they have the money to market the hell outta anything. more power to them. doesnt bother me. if they didnt spend time making commercials i prolly would never have been enjoying the NEED FOR SPEED series. and if it werent for my involvement here. the only thing telling me there might be a bigger better BF coming is the little pop up box in BF2. AND!>!>!> if it comes to me in a shiny box with platinum plated hinges... SWEET! in the end... either its a "good product" and i will play the hell outta it. or its not and i will toss the cd among all its friends like microsoft flight simulator and post-brad noel sublime cds. maybe ill keep the shiny box though.

    good points pauwder.

bit of a ramble here...but read it as a slow lament and not an intense diatribe 😉

I think for me it comes down to the prevailing philosophy to get the next game out asap. I didn't get BF42 when it first came out but once I did get it I was hooked and couldn't put it down. It was out at least a year though (I think), before I began to hear anything about Battlefield Vietnam. They had 7 patches and new free content fairly consistently and the time available along with the mod tools enabled a strong mod/custom map community. When BF Vietnam came out, I bought it almost immediately and while I enjoyed the game, there were some aspects of it that frustrated me greatly. They released two full patches (including several free maps and weapons) and a couple of other minor tweaks, but hadn't made it to that same amazingly playable level that BF42 had reached by around patch 4. Within 6 months of release, the Battlefield 2 hype machine started. Once that came out, work on BFV essentially stopped and the game never reached it's full potential. Some of the mods were starting to come out when BF2 came out but most everyone abandon BFV immediately, and many just never got played. I have seen the cycle repeat itself again with BF2 now. News of a "new game" comes out, we get a final patch and the work then concentrates on the new game. Many of these mods that have the potential to be great may never see the light of day because what's the point of releasing a mod that there is no community for?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the hell out of BF2. I also think that the improvements that they have made in the series are tremendous. Squads, VOIP, 3D Icons, physics as well as many other things have all improved since BF42. There are certainly things that frustrate me greatly about the game as well, including features/improvements from the previous games that either weren't implemented for BF2 or were implemented poorly. I also think that the ranking system has been the death of mods and custom maps.

I'm just not going to buy 2142 immediately. I can't in fact, and won't be able to until probably Christmas time. At that point the grumblings of the "community" should let me know whether it is worth the $50 or not - maybe I'll be able to get it for less at that point. We also should be closer to some of the other game that are out there such as Frontlines or Quake Wars.

One other thing, I always thought the DICE folks were pretty good to the community. It has been since EA bought them that things have started to go south. I do however suspect that DICE Canada's work on patching BF2 was high on the list of reasons that the place was closed.
