Antivirus-Spyware-Trojan-Phishing etc. prog

My browser is FF3.03 and I need good protection. As there r so many Antivirus etc. progs on the market cannot make up m mind.

Is there anybody out there ....with a good idea?

AVAST! and AVIRA antivirus get periodic mention. . .they're free, and supposedly pretty good. I recently tried AVAST, and wasn't thrilled with how it acted. It kind of went off and did it's own thing for a few minutes after bootup, and I found that annoying.

I went back to my old standby, AVG Antivirus. It's free, and I have used this for years and like it. Recently it added some components I didn't like, but now I know not to install those portions, and I'm happy with it again

I did not install the SAFE SEARCH option, which attaches to your browser and marks every link you see with an icon telling you if it's dangerous, possibly dangerous, or safe to visit. it was nice when it worked, but found out it sometimes doesn't work, or worse, crashed my browser on visits to certain websites, like CNN. Having tried it and knowing what it does, I knew to not install that the second time. I think I also did not install the email protection portion, since I use web-based email exclusively (Gmail).

For something that offers similar functionality to the AVG SAFE SEARCH option, without making your browser unstable, you might want to look at WOT (Web of Trust) at the same Firefox plugin site.

Thank you. Sounds good I´ll give it a try. Was reading the "My favorite little utility" thread. On page 2 Silent was recomending avast Bubba liked it too, but I was not sure about the browser they use. Couldn´t make up m mind still.

I spent the $$$ on Eset NoD32 anti-virus it kicked Nortons ass - it's small, takes very minimal memory and has not failed me yet (that I know of.....) rates very high on the security screening sites.

In conjunction (look it up Bubba) I also run WebRoot SpySweeper I turn a few things off because it's to pushy, but once configured it also works very very well.

Two major pluses are the start up shield looks all the way in to your start up routines to show back ground and hidden start up items, so you can decide if you want them on or off.

And it does a great job of blocking malicious web sites before you do something stupid and actually enter them and get your self in trouble.

I've heard nothing but good things about NoD32, and nothing but bad about Norton AV for more than a decade. If you're not cheap like me, Bubba, and Silent, NoD32 is a good choice.

I also use Comodo BoClean and SpywareBlaster in addition to AVG antivirus.

I don't have a problem paying for AV, it's well worth it. I paid for Mcafee for many years. Then it became more of a virus than what it was protecting me from. I use Avast not because of its price but because it does a great job with a small footprint. In fact I bought a site license of avast for my office.

Loaded this €%&$# of "$%&%&$. And yesterday it got deleted by avast. Though this is a true story it did not happen to my PC, but to the one I am working with in the office.
Don´t know what is worse.

But as I saw today its a Google connected thing. Just were looking for titles of Black Sabbath's discs and that stupid fake AVirus2009 popped up again.

For my home pc I will probably go for Eset NoD32 depending on the price. Have to check that out. First I'll download the AVG though.

Ref. to AV2009: CCleaner deleted enfected files. For now its ok. SF Nothing popped up gain.
Ref. to Eset NoD32: which I would like to check out but on the www.filemirrors.com I couldn´t find it and so I have no rating. http://www.nod-32.net/es/ provides me with a free trial.
Ref. to AVG: Its loaded up but not compatible with my Win XP Home a special version for students.

Do a Google search on 'NoD32 anti-virus review', you should find a lot of info. Here are some reviews. Direct links are tough with this site, as they seem to want you to go to their home page and navigate around, but these should help.

The AVG incompatibility is weird. I don't know what to say there, except that it sucks, and you obviously can't use AVG.

I use Avast now. I was using AVG, but didn't like where it was going. I'm happy with it.

I also recommend SpyBot Search and Destroy. I found it was just slightly better than WebRoot SpySweeper. Although I have at times installed both to clean out a really bad PC.

Be careful of the lyric websites. There are a higher than average number of bad sites that try to install stuff.

Sadly true, which brings me back the the Web Of Trust plug-in for Firefox. Warns you of questionable/bad sites.

DLed the "free" Eset NoD32 AntiVirus, o n l y had to send 3 short messages per mobile phone (value €1,50 each) to be able to. That´s not too expensive or anything but its not the same as f r e e. Basta.

Now its recommended to delete, i.e. not let any other AntiVirus or Spy prog run aside.

Every antivirus with a real-time scanner says you should not run another antivirus with it. It's accepted practice, and AFAIK, everybody I've ever known runs only one. You can run other anti-malware programs, and possibly a scan-on-demand-only antivirus, but you might be courting problems and system instability if you run two AV with real-time scanners at the same time.

I don't know what an SMS is, or why your UPLOADING antivirus software. I guess you meant 'download' there.

We're approaching Halloween, so I thought I'd switch to an avatar that celebrated it. Whenever I find an interesting graphic, I file it away for future use. Today seemed like a good time to break it out.

Glad you liked it. A good laugh relieves the stress of the day.

Forgot to answer ur question, remember that I was laughing my heart out that day. All of a sudden ur avatar changed. Excuse me. (Totally serious now). An sms is the abrevation for short message system and is refered to the use of bineric code system while using the keys to compose messages on a mobile phone.

Good. Doc, I saw it but I was not sure if u had red it already.

Right now I have a smally issue. Tiny, but it bugs me.

Is it possible that photobucket e.g. needs a time before I can refer to a special image?
Since I started working this afternoon nothing has worked out well so far.

Just wanted to give Sarge a picture of how it looks when I go to the Aquarium Drunkard blog he referred to in the Cash/Dylan thread but the image won´t show up. Instead it shows just a lame white X in a red cube.

It SHOULD be pretty simple. Go to your Photobucket acct and click on the pic you want to show. When that page comes up, click on the text indicated by the red line on my picture. This will copy the text to your clipboard. When writing the message you want the picture in, press (CONTROL)-V, or click your right mousebutton and select PASTE.

Maybe Photobucket is having issues. You could use TINYPIC. You don't even need an account there to use it to host pictures.

And just for giggles, try pressing the F5 key on the screen showing the white box with the red x. Maybe you just need to reload the page. Doesn't cost anything to try.

I know its simple. I did it before here in this threat.
There r times when I don´t see what I do wrong, becuse of confusion.
Things that happen at work and lots of new habits here.
But look now.

It was the updates that were missing. After I updated XP he to SP03 yesterday, there was no issue with the AVG DL.
