Avatar Question

How'd you guys get yur avatars to look good and stay under the limit you have in place.

and yeah i know i'm a dope you don't need to point it out!

I just shrunk an image and it was so bad you couldn't make out what it was. It's my bands Mascot. The PBR MAN.
Now i'm coming to understand that that is not all you need to do.
So I'm asking for help!

I got it up on Howard Sterns board but there cap is a little higher, I think 12 or 16kb, and it looks fine.

Talk with Lou about it, he can make anything look good.

Lou's rock! The one I had up before rotated between a bunch of pics originally created by him. I did it with Fireworks MX 2004 for the animated gif, and just saved with as few colors as possible without ruining the avatar. I took mine down to redo and need to get new ones up. It'll have to wait until I get out of Alabama (if i get out of here with that hurricane coming).

The program that comes with Photoshop, ImageReady has a save optimized as funtion. It compresses the heck out of a gif and still looks decent. That's the best I've found to use, but Raze, LoU or Hitpawz might have a better way.

I just use photoshop and the save to web feature.
