While I wasn't getting any stuttering, the quality of my audio wasn't as good as I wanted given the new Audigy Card that I just bought. This helped clean up the audio alot - especially on the in game VOIP and Teamspeak. Give it a shot and see if it helps

- Make sure you only have one sound card. Disable onboard sound if you have a dedicated card.
- Check your "Sound and Audio Devices" in the Control Panel and change your setting to "Headphones" or "2 Speakers". It's possible you have the Speaker setup to a setting incompatible with your sound card.
- Change the audio codec priority settings for HL2. Go to Control Panel > Sounds & Audio > Hardware tab > double click Audio Codecs > Properties tab > the Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec, select properties and change the priority to 1. Then selected the Windows PCM converter and set its priority to 2. By default, these two codecs are placed last in the list.
