cooling

I took everyone's advice and ordered an X-fi card and it should be here shortly. Hopefully this takes some stress off of my Mobo.

I also took a hard drive cooler that I bought at Comp USA and reversed the fans. I stuck it in the top drive bay of my tower, something my friend recommended, and now I have the hot air blowing out the top of my front drive bay. I didn't have any spot for a fan on the top of my case so this was my next option. I'm running a lot cooler now and it wasn't really all that hard at all. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Has anyone here had any experience with WD Raptors? Did you get good results from it or was it noticable at all? I got one on the way now and i've heard nothing but good things about them.

Cool. Glad you are souping up your machine. I've seen a machine's performance improved by adding a sound card, so I hope that'll help. Cooling is very important, so that's another good move.

Can't help you with the Raptor, except that it IS a very fast HD. I think one or 2 other models may have it beat now, though. I seem to recall a higher storage, higher density drive beat it, or comes very close while offering the higher capacity. Don't really recall much about it, as it was awhile ago and I'm not in the market.

I want to say Drix had raptors... nut I have no experience. If it's anything liek the jump i had from 5400 to 7200, it's worth it's weight in gold

I believe the raptors are 10k RPM drives. All of the local lan guys swear by them.

yeah they are 10k rpm... that is the cool thing about them...

A lot of the OKGG guys will use them strictly for games and/or swap files. I could see that being beneficial.

That's my plan, i've got a 320 gig WD hard drive that i'll use to store most of my stuff on and use the Raptor to install all of my games. I've heard some things about keeping them cool though so I got a hard drive cooler to help keep that under control.

I have a 150GB Raptor that I installed my games on. Works well. I like it. faster is always better I say 🙂
