Yep, you heard me correct. Not only is it not supported, but hardware audio is a thing of the past. It appears that audio was ran in the kernel (gee, now I know why I always wondered why certain games crashed when certain sounds were played) and thus was a bad thing.

So, Microsoft rewrote the whole audio stack. Brand new, no longer running in the kernel. Oh, btw, they also dropped support for hardware based audio. Gee thanks M$......

It also mentions this rewrite add extra DRM features so they can control what you do with your own legally purchased audio.... Gee thanks, RIAA, MPAA and all you F'ing bastards who want to take away your own customers rights.

    Yep, I'm pissed.... Bye now.....

yet another reason not to upgrade. Anyone come up with the viable OS Alternative yet? 😉

I will sticking to XP at home for some time I am sure. At least on my gaming computer. I understand what they are trying to do but there has to be a way to achieve both. Some type of emulation running in a virtual machine, something..

    Not just kill it totally.

What our eurodite leader is trying to say is, this very thing is discussed on page 2 of the article.

I'm not touching Vista until I get my next machine. I figure that'll give it a couple years to get it's act together.

Doc, I know there was a compliment in there somewhere, but I'm a bit confused. I googled Eurodite and came up with this:

EURODITE (Regional Trajectories to the Knowledge Economy)

    Ummm, huh?

I guess it could be worse. You could have called me a Eurodyke......

Sorry I did not read the article I just lept on Atomm's panic! 😉

After reading this I now understand what they are doing and I think this may not be bad in the future. Also since I already own an X-Fi card I would be fine. 😉

It is similar to the graphics sub set as I do know the way they have redone the graphics API is actually a good thing. You can now updated graphics drivers and not have to reboot. Also if a stray program causes a graphics crash the OS should be fine. XP does this to a point but Vista is supposed to be even better.

I still will stick with XP for my gaming machine for some time until I am SURE there will be little, if any problems with my games.
