As long as it's released before our year is up, we will be able to download Windows 7 and get a valid key that is not suppose to expire.
I was even thinking of loading vista from here, but the moment passed... :-)
You can load the Release Candidate of Windows 7 if you want. It's available and will stay active until July 2010. After that, it shuts down every two hours.
I signed up... when technet first came up I was one of the first to sign up, they sent me a t-shirt. Then a little while later out of the blue they sent me a full professional version of Office for free.
One of the guys at work called Microsoft because they were having problems getting key's. M$ told him they were experiencing issues and were working to upgrade the key servers and bandwidth.
He had already downloaded 30 GB's worth of stuff too. :-)

I'm pretty sure what's going on isn't a temporary thing. I wish I'd known this would happen - I might have done more than click on one link and get a single XP Pro key.
I'd like to have got the daylight savings time patch anyway.
Microsoft contracted with us, Intrepid Consultants, Inc, to conduct the TechNet Plus Pilot Study program research and manage the activities of the pilot study. Our records show that you have recently signed up for a free TechNet Plus subscription through a registration link that was made available without authorization on a public blog.
The registration link is part of a proprietary study and the party that shared the information was in violation of the terms and conditions to which they agreed to participate in the study. You can join the Microsoft partner program and get about the equivalent arrangement. I'm already a member, but haven't plopped down the $300 yet. I plan to soon though, so I can upgrade a Windows 2000 server to 2008 as a test pilot server for the software I'm working on.
You can take tests and do other things to earn points and more free goodies. Yeah, you're basically helping to promote MS, but you get rewarded with software to work with that would otherwise cost you a fortune.
