Ok after the reinstall every things good, but now my HD runs all the damn time.

Before the rebuild, it ran as needed, now its on for ~2 to 3 seconds then off for ~.25 to .5 seconds then repeat. ALL THE DAMN TIME!

I have turned off windows drive indexing for a faster searches on the HD but no joy.

I look at my Windows Task manager and my system is idle 99% the other 1% is bouncing around between SYSTEM, LSASS.exe and CSRSS.exe
(these last 2 I have no clue what they are)

But none of them are showing with the regularity of the hard drive use.

I think it may be the Norton's system works Premiere that is causing all of the hard drive issues.

Any thoughts on how I can see what is calling for all the usage?

Well I found the 2 .exe's and must be related to Win XP Pro SP2.
I only had SP1 on last time.

    Process File: lsass or lsass.exe
Process Name: Local Security Authority Service

    Description:
lsass.exe is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login policies. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    csrss - csrss.exe - Process Information
    Process File: csrss or csrss.exe
Process Name: Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem

    Description:

So I'm still on the hunt.

OK I'll give it untill Monday. It may still be chewing on a back "go back" back up of all my files.
If it still is running stuff is getting shut off.

Personally, I hate Norton's. I think it does more damage to a system than it's worth. I've seen some very hosed up systems from Norton's Internet Security software.

That's the one SW package that was not included in the premier.
I purchased it for the virus and spy ware
    and the Ghost utility.

It also included GO Back (which I think is the culprit)
and Check up and Clean up.

The check up and system optimize has found some things that it was able to repair, and appears to have helps, but I think Go Back is monitoring and writing to the Go Back file constantly.

It will be the first to go.

Go back does that and as an aside it just so happens /. has an article on this today. http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1910077,00.asp Symantec installs a root kit with it's norton software. I, much like Atomm, have seen Norton cause more troubles than it helps on a rather consistant basis.
