Do you guys do any kind of live chat similar to G4.com, where people can call in and discuss topics on the air? I am a newbie here, is this just a music site?

Welcome to Gamers Radio. Right now we are just doing music. I have an outline for a talk show. I'm still trying to work out the details.

What kind of show would interest you? What kind of topics?

I am not sure. Maybe a 2 hour show on gaming, where gamers can download the weekly show via the website and call in with their comments. I think you should do a dry run. Like advertise on this site for a solid two weeks that you will be posting a number for gamers to call into and chat about games coming out. It would have to be a show type format so it would be two or three hosts maybe with an intro topic talking about it at length for 20 min and then have gamers call into to voice their opinions. We could do a Sunday night broadcast.

    Your thoughts

I dig the idea... The thing that would really kick this off would be to have developers of mods/games/etc... to come in and take questions from the callers...

The all in all to this is one thing though... It would take a lot of planing and money... But I do agree that it is something worth looking into...

OMG LoU! You hit it right on the money! That is exactly what we should do.

I was planning on asking ephil if he would be interested in doing this. I have a device that will allow me to call him and he should sound just like he is in the studio. It's the same thing the radio stations use when people call in. I actually bought 2 of them on ebay just for this. ephil, you up for doing this, say on a Tuesday night?

The thing is, I'm not always good at coming up with things to discuss. I really like your idea about Mapping in the BF community. It would give us a start and it would be with people we know. That would make us a little more comfortable with the whole situation. From there, we could take suggestions.

The problem with people calling in is either I have to pay for it or they have to pay for it. That just doesn't work. What I was thinking was hooking up a second computer to my mixer and running TS on it. You could make everyone silent and have them type what they want to talk about. When it is there turn, you turn them on. When they are done, you turn them back off. The beauty of this is it allows people to participate regardless of where they are in the world. I've been playing around with TS for this purpose, but I don't quite have all the kinks worked out.

I already have a name for the show. I like it, so I'm sticking with it. 😛 The name would be When Worlds Collide (Think Powerman 5000). I think that sums up all the different game worlds, as well as Real Life and Game Life, which we know is not always the same thing.

The last part is sending the live signal to the station. Right now, we can only have 30 people max on a live stream, unless they are a subscriber to Live365. Then they don't count against the cap. We can pay more for 50 people, but that is the max, short of getting a second stream. All of this takes money and I'm maxxed out on what I can pay each month. The other option is we record it and play it back. That would allow 100 people to listen, but audience participation might be a little weak.

As you can see, I've been putting a lot of thought into this. I just need to work out all the logistics.

Oh and I thought it was "Move!!! Im Jeep in a Drunk."

I have a call/TS screener setup right now as well... This is something that I would be very interested in [as to the reason I started talking in here]... TS would be a great option and we can control it very well... Shoutcast is not a bad option for something like this as well...

I would like us to talk about this more... But, as I posted in the other tread, I am still out on the broadband for a couple weeks... So... I want the talks to continue and I want us to start looking into promotion, guests, music options [if possible depending on what medium we use] and the general layout of the show...

Alrighty then.... Looks like we are on to something. Ok, Sorry Yousaf. It's time we go private with this. We will post something back to this thread when we have the details all worked out. :-)

To be honest guys, I really think a call in show maybe too advanced. Maybe some of the hosts talkign about games with some live teletype.

I think you would have no problem getting developers or players to talk you. I work in the gaming industry and it would be free publicity plus you would be speaking to a 100% gaming audience.

Let me know ifyou need any direction or tips.

Very true [about the call in show idea]... But a mix of VoIP/IRC/etc may not be a bad idea 🙂

You sparked something in us that we have talked about in the past... It is now that we are really looking at this and with the help of the new GRB clan mates, this may be something that will take off...

As things progress we will continue to speak in public forums here to get suggestions, assistance or just talk about what we are thinking about 🙂

Thanks for bringing this alive again with us 🙂

Here's the thing. Bringing an audience in direct contact with the companies would be a huge victory for this station. It's something that very few other Internet radio stations have been able to do. The one's that have done it usually do it through traditional broadcast connections, then pipe it over the Internet. If we can avoid that route, then we are ahead of the game. We need to at least look into it.

With VOIP technology, the rules have changed. If there is any way for us to use that to our advantage, we will do it. You gotta remember, we are not just gamers, we are technology junkies. We live and breath technology at our day jobs. :-)

I am still open to hearing your ideas. It's always good to get other points of view. Sometimes, we can get caught up in the technology side of things. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to post them.

Yousaf, Can you arrange interviews with any of the major companies without causing problems to your day job?

I think this can be a great win-win situation. However, I think the only way to bring developers and companies to the plate in the first place is to develop a quality program.

    Atomm,

I have no problem speaking to certain people, I want this to be a professional show first before I approach any clients.

Concentrate on making the show kick ass and lets see how many new users you get and I will see what I can do on my end.

    Sounds Great!

We are working on the details now. It may get quiet for a bit, but that's just because we are putting it together. I'll get back with you when we have something better to show you. Also, how's that writting coming? :-)
  16. #16
lol....I am working on it. Actually we have been busy with some new titles so we have been tied down.

Here is what I was brainstroming.

-Movies and games how each influences the other
-What makes a MMORPG rock and where are they interms of mainstream gaming
-Is gaming going mainstream a good or bad thing for the lifestyle

I will finish up one and see what you think
  17. #17
Those sound great. Be sure to tie in specific games so I have an avenue to promote them. I can explain more privately if you want.

We had another idea going, but I'm not sure where to go with it. Along the lines of my previous feature writer, Bombastika (links under Features). She wrote a 3 part article called when Everquest becomes more than a game. It was an interesting article that became part of it's own story. Read it to see what I mean. It also goes to show the level of addiction these games have and what people will do to protect their precious playtime.

Here is the scenario. World of Warcraft is coming out soon. Several of us have made comments about how excited we are about it, but how scared we are that it will eat away at our lives. Personally, I want to play this game so bad, but I won't because Gamers Radio and my personal life are something I value. A MMORPG like WoW can eat at that in ways that only a person who has played 40+ hours a week of a single game can understand. What do you think? Is there any way to peer into this topic? Can we turn it into something interesting and informative? With WoW around the corner, it could be a hot article.

hey i used to have live radio much like you guys are talking about, and the easyest way i found to talk to gamers was to set up a ventrilo server or in your case teamspeak and get a decent broadcaster (SAM Broadcaster) then when you using the mic you can set it to broadcast your linein other words the persons, people your talking to on teamspeak. So your shows can be herd in the same quilty as if they where right next to you.

    ~ Henley

btw i love this radio station it rocks
  19. #19
Hehe. Thanks for the great words.

I have some questions about the TeamSpeak thing. Did you broadcast directly into your voice server? I've been trying to figure out the details of this, well, I've been rolling it around my head. I haven't actually sat down and dug into it. How did it work out? Any suggestions, comments, lessons learned you can pass our way would be really appreciated.
  20. #20
well in sam broadcaster u can select to broadcast directly from linein wich is your mic and your soundcard so when your co dj who is speaking on teamspeak you get that directly broadcasted into the radio its realy quite simple but very effective

Hey guys sorry I have been out of commission. I am still in the game to do the WOW article. What do you guys advise. Sorry for being a flake.
  22. #22
    Nice to see you bud.

Can you remind me what you were looking to do for WoW? I see a lot of interesting things about the game. If you are looking for topics, here are a few that I see a lot of people talking about:

Did WoW live up to the hype?
What does the future hold for a level 60?
Whats more important, the journey to 60 or the end game?
Is WoW the first MMORPG with an ending?
  23. #23
Didnt think WoW was going to have a real ENDING... They just added a new dungeon and will continue to do these things... I plan to enjoy the game ever so much at level 60 🙂

I've been reading a lot of the hunter forums and there has been a lot of complaints about hunters in the end game. So much so, that a lot people are ditching their hunters for other classes because the way the game is designed, hunters are pretty much worthless. From this discussion, I have seen a lot of the power gamers questioning the end game.

Personally, for me, it is about the journey and not the end result. To be honest, I'm progressing rather slow and enjoying it, but if I had to do this again, I'm not so sure it would be fun. Looking back at UO vs. this quest based style of play, I see UO being more open ended. I think open ended play offers more variety at the higher levels. On the other hand, I am starting to view wow a lot like Diablo. It's fun at first, but everything starts to feel like I've been there before and done that already. I'm still having fun, but the newness is wearing off.

Hey, maybe that would make a good article. After the newness has wore off, is World of Warcraft everything it's cracked up to be?

It may just be the quests you are doing... Some of the quests get a little annoying, but then some are a lot of fun... I esp like the quests for the Rogue... My cuurent quest that I am working on is one that is shared by all Rogues, so it is a lot of Rogue only PvP... Kinda funny... If a normal char came to that area they wouldnt see a lot until that one Rogue struck.

There was a small stretch that was just pissing me off in the game. I couldn't solo any of my quests and there wasn't many people around my area that were available to help. After a little yelling, one of our high level peeps, [esoog] helped me out with a couple quests... Day before yesterday, myself and three others did a full instance... [That was very cool!] and then last night... Myself and another guild member went through 3 elite quests [with a little pvp included]... That was a great time as well...

I've got Shadow Fang Keep, but I deffinately need some help. I'd like to check it out sometime, but we will need a group of guys 27+. I'm just under 25.

As for class specific quests, the only one the hunter gets is the Tame Pet quest. That's been a big complaint from people. Hopefully, they will add some more specific stuff soon.

Anytime you need help, let me know... I am more then happy to run around and help people 🙂
