M$ Offers Vista to XP Upgrade

    It appears that M$ is offering certain computer manufactuers the ability for their customers to rollback (upgrade?) from Vista to XP.

    What do you guys think about this? I was quite shocked myself. It's almost as if they are admitting they made a mistake.

    Wow, I was shocked when Dell started offering XP on machines again, I never expected this.

    I know they did this with dell.

    I can't think of any version of Windows allowing this before.

    Me allowed a rollback? We all know how much of a flop ME was.


    That seals the deal for me, Vista is a flop.

    Wasn't the Me rollback to 98' SE? Everyone I knew was backtrackin' that one. I was building a facade for URA and they had a hell of a mess with Me at the time. It was funny, a carpenter off the street helping them reinstall 'win98, just so I could get a contract and supplier listing.

    The problem is, businesses are content with XP, until business adopts it, you are screwed. Business never touched ME and had just adopted 2k when XP became viable. They have been bitten.

    Vista offers nothing I mean nothing to a business user. And it will require some training and alot of effort on behalf of IT staff to upgrade.

    I remember going to a LAN party and watching the ME guys spend most of the time getting games to work while the Win98 guys gamed the whole time.

    Wow, does VISTA offer ANYTHING that XP doesn't - ok, wait, DirectX 10. I wonder if someone will develop an alternative to DirectX 10 that isn't tied to Vista or XP.

    Also, I think HD-DVD & Blu-Ray needs Vista and the heavy DRM that was installed for them. I wonder if that too will be made to run on XP eventually, maybe without all the DRM.

    Short of that, it's bells and whistles and improved interface that can be added to XP with a few other programs, IIRC. Damn. Things that make you go Hmmm.
