Monitor Lag

    Seriously, this is something that I really need to pay attention to. I bought a nice monitor with a 2ms response time. I can guaruntee it's overdriven. I looked for the monitor in that review and it appears to be UK only. They mention a few others at a slightly smaller size. I may sell my LCD and get a new one.

    Mine runs good, want a model #? its a Viewsonic VX1940w. I think it was said to be a 2ms. I just checked my two monitors, My Dell 2007fp does lag behind my Viewsonic. My viewsonic is my primary, so I do ok in game.

    Atomm, please keep us advised of what you find out. I have a 2ms overdriven monitor that perhaps doens't really ghost, its just the scene changes put me back at QW:ET where it makes me dizzy. I couldn't even stand it with UT04 or UT3 where scenery isn't really to blame either.

    But if you find that perfect one....


    Also remember to keep in mind that europe is using PAL @ 50hz 220v which could have a different effect as compared to the US @ 60/110v.

    I have found two monitors. Both are Europe only. 🙁

    NEC MultiSync 24WMGX3

    iiyama ProLite E2201W

    From what I have been able to tell, the NEC is near perfect 2ms and the iiyama has 0ms lag when compared to a crt. The one problem it has is the screen can cause the upper 1/3rd of the screen to appear darker. This appears to be prevalent when playing games and webpages.

    I am still digging. For me, it's about moving back to the place I was before buying a LCD. I will still have problems, but hopefully not as many. Besides, I needed an excuse to upgrade the 19" LCD i have. :-)

    I stickied this so it wouldn't get lost. I will keep digging.

    Samsung 226BW - 1ms
    The Viewsonic vx922 (discontinued) - 2ms

    Unfortunately all are 22-24 inch TN monitors known for bad viewing angles so its a tradeoff.

    I read somewhere it would be best for gaming to have a 24" one.

    Mine is not listed. It has not got any reviews that looked too good but it was not bad either. Guess it was a good one to start with.
    Think I will give it back when I move tho. Here is a pretty intl review on it.

    Thanks Sarge. Unfortunately, I think the Low Input Lag is Marketing speak for 2MS response time. Based on my previous reading, that is a TN Panel and they don't fare well for real time Input Lag tests. I'll keep an eye out for a review of this in case I'm wrong. I'd be happy to pay this if it's true.

    I'm seriously considering a refurbished 24" 16:9 Wide Screen Sony Tritron CRT. It only weighs 120lbs, but they are suppose to be one of the best CRT's ever made. I'm suprised Doc doesn't already have one.

    Wow, Paladin has been keeping Doc and I supplied with CRT's. The 21" damn near breaks my back to pickup and put on the desk but its worth it. I'm still amazed he managed to carry those suckers home with his bad back ;p

    FWIW, I have a Acer 2ms 24" LCD. It sits right beside the CRT. Certain games it still looked as smeary as the 5ms model did, namely W@W and also QW:ET.

    107.8 pounds.... yah that is about right but worth it once you get it in place.

    I'm always looking for a cheap Trinitron. It would be foolish not to. The one I got from Paladin died 2 years back. Still, considering I paid $40 total for these two monitors (and the extra one in my closet) I'm not complaining that they aren't Trinitrons.

    Atomm, your problem is that that you need to geek up and put that extra CRT on your desk. I don't care if it doesn't fit - make it fit. Get another desk, or a big piece of plywood, or a small table to sit next to the desk. You'll never game, and I'll never really respect your geek-cred, until you do. 😀 A REAL geek would never let a little thing like how the room looks, or what fits on a desk, interfere with a superior gaming/computer experience.

    Something for you to think about. It had the wide-screen that you crave in an LCD, but in a CRT form. If they get down to $50, I might pay that much just for one monitor! 🙂

    I think I finally found an LCD that matches a CRT for input lag.

    Here is a comparison of the Viewsonic with a Samsung that appears to have the exact same input lag. The brightness is much different though. I can't figure out if I want a brighter or darker monitor.

    I'm desperate to find something closer to a CRT. I really think this is a big part of the problem I have with games now days. I may have to give this a shot for BF3 because I really want to play.

    Honestly, no. I was going to, but Metro is the exact type of map and play that makes me sick. And since it's more of a CoD style map, I decided it wouldn't give me a good idea of the game and if I was able to play it.

    I'm just going to hand my money over to DICE and take my lumps, good or bad.

    I ordered the Monitor last night. I just hope it makes a difference. Now I may have to upgrade my video card to handle the 120Hz.

    I got the monitor in. All I can say is WOW! For $200, this is the best looking monitor I have ever seen. I fired up TF2 and it was night and day difference how it looked. I'm amazed because I'm using the same graphics card I had on the old monitor.

    I did run into one problem that I need to figure out. I have a 17" monitor hooked up for doing development stuff. It runs at 60Hz. When I run the new monitor at 120Hz and the 17" at 60Hz, my computer spontaneously reboots. I may get a USB monitor "graphics" card for the 17", so that it's not on the same power draw as the video card. It's annoying, but it's not a deal breaker.

    The other thing is it's freaking huge. Going for 19 to 22 was a much bigger difference than I expected.

    If you are in the market for a great looking gaming monitor, give this one a look. You'll need a video card that can do 120Hz, but I'm shocked at how much of a difference it makes. I can't wait to try BF3 on it.

    Sounds great, I am itching to replace one of my monitors, but I really can't justify it. These guys work great, but this one will be on my list. I would love to see how a 120Hz monitor looks, I know with the tv it makes a huge difference.

    I tried out BFBC2 Vietnam last night. Yes, it was much improved. TF2 was as well. I still felt a bit on TF2, but I was really, really tired when I played it. I think that really plays a part in my problem. That and getting f#$%ing old.......

    I really think the refresh rate going from CRT to LCD was a big deal for me.

    I tell you, this thing is huge (that's what she said!). I'm really digging it and for $210, I don't think it can be beat.
