I've noticed when I read msgs, I have to scroll right/left, as the lines are too long. This is happening on a few forums I go to(including this one), and it's irritating as all hell.
I run 1024x768, and even in full-screen mode, IE makes me scroll. Sometimes I just scroll a little over, and hide the left colum stuff and I'm good to go, other times the text is so long, I have to drag the bar left and right to see each whole line.
I COULD stretch the window across both monitors, but there's that 3-inch gap in-between where the both monitor's frames are. A 3-inch gap across lines of text is not good, and also irritating as all hell.
I dunno why I'm seeing this so much. Anybody have an idea about a fix, or is everybody seeing this and just deals?
What the heck. I also have an issue. Everytime I visit the forums, I click up 'new posts', and get a screen of whateva, then read a msg or two, click on back, and wtf, says no new msgs. I know there were several just 2 minutes before. That is one setting that could use some tweaking
I use Avant Browser, the best browser in IMHO. It is basically just a skin for IE but it allows tabbed browsing and all sorts of built in things. One of the things is since it uses tabs I can load up the forum screen hit the new messages since last visited. Then I get that list. I then click and open each one in another tab. Lets me view all the new stuff without having a ton of windows on my screen and I do not have to use the back button etcâ¦
Works rather well.
I like using the IE engine as a lot of pages on the internet rely on IE so FireFox is okay but a pain at times.
I do not see the weirdness a lot of people do but maybe that is because I run at very hi resolutions. I like to fit a lot on my screen at once.
I do occasionally see an error on the left that pushes all the pages to the right and is just a mess but that is not that often.
A couple things come to mind. Posting a long URL will cause the scrolling issue. A large image can also cause the scrolling issue.
I have been working on the left side issue. I know where the problem is, but not why or how to fix it. I've been asking for help at PostNuke and no one seems to know. I did the one thing they suggested and I am not sure if it fixed it or not. The problem is tied to the HTML url's vs php URL's with a bunch of stuff after the ?. Since adding short URL's, I've seen an improvement in Search engine traffic, so I am reluctant to go back. I'll keep looking into it.
As for the new message problem, that is my fault. I was doing some database clean up and decided there was no reason to have a huge pile of session id's. Apparently, that's important.... Again, I've been trying to find a way to fix it, but have not had any luck.
Raze and I are currently working on a stand alone forum. I hope this will solve the problem.
I do the same thing as Paladin, except with Firefox. The Safest Browser On The Web...... 😛
First may I suggest adding more day options? What if I do not read over the weekend but my âsince last visitedâ link does not work or gets reset?
Just today I already had the âsince last visitedâ page already open in a tab. When I went to it to see new stuff and reload, it was reset to current time. So I missed out on what was truly since my last visit.
I when to the search to just see the past days posts but when I try to use the search function, nothing happens when I âsearchâ. Is this just me? Yes I did tell it
Is there an easier module or drop down you can add to the top of the forum page that simply lets me pick posts from the past 1,2,3 days etc
