Ordered New Video Card

Playing TF2 on Friday was the last straw. You see, there were moments in the game when all character models went psycodelic with shades of yellow and red. It was like looking at an electronic TyeDye T-shirt.

Since I want a 8800GT, but they are runing 30-60 over their suggested retail of 200-250, I decided to go with a 8600GTS for now. It's not what I wanted, but I gotta have something soon or I am going to have start dropping acid before playing on Friday Nights....

Oh yea, it came with a free copy of Company of Heroes. Looks like I may have something to play over the holidays at my in-laws. :-0

Hey man nice card I havw the 8600 GTSOC its sweet!!! Considering I upgraded from a 1600 pro.

I'll just be glad to get the card Paladin gave me a place to run. 🙂

What speed are you running?

I think this one was slightly OC'd to 675 instead of 650.

710 baby. I ran 3D mark 05 with the 1600 pro an got like 7000 for that one. When i put in the 8600GTSOC it jumped to 14000.

It came in today. I'm about to install it.

I'm a little disappointed as it didn't come with Company of Heroes. That's the big reason I bought this one over the EVGA... 🙁

Ha, tell me about it. First my motherboards came and they needed a 24pin power connector, so I had to order a couple of new PS's. After waiting another 4 days I find I need a damn PCIe power connector for the video cards. No one in the city has adapters so I have to friggen make another mail order.

This wasn't an upgrade. It was a new build around a video card. There goes my weekend 🙁

I hope it turns around for you Lexx. I know how much of a pain this can be...

Worse build I've ever had. The motherboard is bad. I've tried everything in the last few hours, but can't get it to install an OS. Man I'm pissed. I ran out last night and bought a powersupply and that still didn't help. So I guess its piss with return and wait some more. God I HATE mail order returns.

On the plus side, the other one I built for my kid is working pretty well now. Got blue screens trying to install XP, but it took Vista perfectly. It measures 5.9 on the ratings. Most games require a 3.0, while a 5.0 was the highend. He will be able to run anything new on it. I installed UT on it last night and I was getting 120fps at 1280x900 maxed out rez.

On the really really bad side, I tore apart my primary system to use the sata drives, so their reformatted and empty, thus no gaming this week, sigh. I'll see how much stuff I can get installed on his and maybe 'borrow' it for a couple of days 🙂
