Sup fellers. I had a good time last night. It was so nice joining in with people who can actually hold their own..on their own. Good stuff, it really was a good time for me, even though I was sitting around on the ass end of total defeat almost every round. Oh, and Ephil, I borrowed some lead from you. Don't worry, I'll get that back to you as I pluck it out of Breaky's stinking heap of a corpse. Ouch, Breaky you gonna let me get away with that shit, bro? Ha ha. I hope not 🙂

Anyway, just wanted to thank you guys for lettin me in the server and I hope to be back real soon. Probably a bit later tonight, actually. I have to take care of my pooch for a few hours so probably about 8 PST, which is close to when we started last night. But you guys are real cool and funny and I feel pretty comfortable speaking, which is rare in new TS rooms for me. You all made me feel like I'd been there forever and I'd like to thank you for that.

I hate to do this, but I actually have a technical question real quick like. I'm running my 9700Pro and it's generally stable and lag free. But it can't hang with +24 player action, being in any seat other than 1, or zooming with any rifle. My FPS will literally go from 60-120 to never more than 15-20 when I'm in those situations. I also have a Nv5900 (whatever model that is the supreme top of the line) totally just rotting in the bag next to my tower. I don't use it because I've always gotten physical renderings of the normal maps when I used it in BFV. Just big grey triangles extending to infinity from every moving object. Often the grass will appear to be 5000 meters tall and I'll get checkerboard shaped corruption across the water. Every other game, including D3 runs absolutely brilliant. Funny thing is that my 9700P won't even run Doom past 640 with a single option turned on, yet is still the best for BFV.

Is anybody else using the 5900 with luck? Could mine just be faulty because every driver set I've tried gives the same thing. I traded my X-Box for the card from a buddy who had it for over a year without ever using it so I'm thinking it's crapped out. The weird thing is it's as smooth as a 9yr old ass and never bogs down in any of the situations that my 9700Pro simply craps out on. So if I can lose the corruption, I can actually consider it a significant upgrade.

So, your technical issue...

The 9700 pro should have no issues with what you are doing... Asking the ATI vs nVidia question in here is a little rough... I go with ATI all the way... Goose just went to the 6800 blah blah blah...

I could only recommend is updating the drivers [if needed] or reinstalling the game... I mean really... We are talking about BFV... An EA supported game... Issues will be there, just have to figure out the best way to resolve them 🙂

How many Watts is your power supply and are you running alot of disk/ harddrives? I know several people who have gotten one of the newer Big Nvidia cards and they eat a LOT of power. Poor power would give you the artifacts you are talking about. Also, when u install it, be sure to wipe out the ATI drivers beforehand and play around with a few different releases of the Nvidia drivers... Hope that helps.

I'm running 400W and I am using two HDDs. I'll look into that. I'm going to do some troubleshooting tonight and first try the Cat4.9's and then see if I can't get the 5900 working like it should.

Do you know how to stop XP Pro from automatically reinstalling the drivers even after they have been removed? It does it totally without prompt and I can't cancel it. I have seen the .dll process going for it, but have been wary of killing that to avoid system problems.

It sounds like a driver problem on the Nvidia card. I have a GeForce 4 TI4200 and I don't have the problems you do with the 5900. Also, there are some settings that affect almost everything. Here is an article that address the exact thing you are talking about. The formatting is still screwed up, so I haven't made it public, but if you don't mind scrolling, I think you will find it very useful.

BTW, I'm a big NVidia fan. However, I just bought a gaming laptop with a 9700 pro. I hope I don't have similiar problems with BFV. I bought it to take to QuakeCon and LAN's. If I can't play BFV, then I might as well not bought it.

400w should be enough Hit, do you know if your PSU is a good brand? Or just some generic? There was a PSU review at Toms Hardware last year showing that a LOT of PSU's out there were not putting out the rated power at all... and alot of the ones that did, only did so unreliably.

The power rating has a lot to do with temperature. At refrigerator or lower temps, power supplies put out their rated wattage. Anything higher than that and most start to put out less, sometimes significantly less.

Yeah, my cooling is all whacked. I have the tower completely open and the AC unit pointed right at it. Lately it's been very hot and most of the crashes I've had showed a CPU temperature somewhat near my set limits. I've been thinking this was the problem, but I have it so cold in my room that I have to wear a jacket even though it's 90 degrees outside. I keep my room at 60 because of this.

My PSU is definitely Brand X. I got it for like 60 bucks from Fry's and those in this area know what the quality of the stuff at Fry's can be like. I also just got it about 4 months ago. Ironically, that's about the same time I've been having this problem. Good call! I think that's it. For reals!

Hehe, my buddy used to work for Tom's Hardware. Before that AMD and now Nvidia. Funny thing is I've only owned an AMD or Nvidia product once in my life and it was the stuff I got with his help. And I've still never been to Tom's. LOL. I'm like the most attentive friend in the world. What were you guys saying? Cause I'm listening....to the radio. Shhh.

When I got my Lian-li case I had to buy a power supply. I ended up getting a enermax I believe it is a 460w with fan control. I have had no issues. I have 4 case fans all with led, 2 fans on the PS, CPU fan@7000 rpm (loud sob), 1 SATA drive, 1 cd/rw, 1 dvd drive, and 2 cathrode lights. Oh, and I am also running the 6800GT. I highly recommend Enermax for a power supply.

I'm goin to Fry's. Hmm, should I go to the temple or the themeless warehouse?
