Can someone look at the search function for the forums? It does not work.

Is there an easy way to also add a “See posts from the last 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 days” instead of just the last 1 day then jumping to 7 days? Sometimes it is nice to just see the last 2 or 3 days for example. A drop down for x amount of days would be the best way. 😉

You sure you are in IT?

Do not start, it does not work man. I know how to do a damn search 😉

Example 1: I leave the Search Query section alone and tried to set the Search Options-search previous to 7 days and nothing happens, it just re-loads the search page. I tried this on a few browsers and made sure the pop up blocker was OFF.

Does it work for you? If so, what am I doing wrong man?

EDIT: I just tried again and I see, it HAS to have a damn '*' in the top part to show the last 7 days. Posts. Man that is so lame. I have never encountered that before where it HAD to have it. Hell the least you can do is default the field with one 😉

Example 2: Search Query does work fine for Search for Author, however, when
I tried putting in "battlefield" for a keyword search, nothing came up. Yea right 😉

EDIT: I just tried again to search on ‘battlefield’ and NOW it is working, WTF?

Did you change something man? Do not play with me here 😉

    LOL!

I did not touch anything..... The search is the one that came with the forums... It's really not that great....

My comment about being IT wasn't geared towards being able to search. It was really about the complexity of your request. It's not like I wrote this forum software. 😛

So, it is working now? Another thing you can do is use the Google Search on our site only. Part of the reason I put it up was Google actually does a better job than the built in search engines we have.

    E-gads!!!

To be honest, most of the search functions built into forums, CMS, whatever tend to be somewhat crappy. I've seen people complain all over the place about different software. It really is basic compared to a search engine....

I honestly feel google is NOT a replacement for the forum search function. it simply does not allow searches by days etc... Not in the way I want. I also HATE google so anytime I do not HAVE to use it, is good. 😉

An IT person who hates Google? Man, now you have me worried.... Google is one of the single greatest tools I have at my disposal. The trick is knowing how to make it give you what you.....

"Hot naked chicks" normally does the trick. :-)

I don't know.... I clicked atomm's RTFG did the search and got Crazy Naked Chicks. Or is it reading my mind? :hmm:

Naked Chicks I can handle, but I don't do Crazy.....

No it has nothing to do with being a good source of information. I use it all the time, you have to sometimes but I try to use other engines whenever I can however. Most people just use it thinking they are a simple good search engine. HA!

My problems with them are they are getting like Wall Mart censorship wise. They skew results. They censor hits. They weigh the results in ways I do not approve of. One example is that since they are big liberals they show it in there results and especially during the election. They put anything positive about Bush at the bottom and anything negative right at the top. Now that is bad enough by itself, I feel it should be TRUE results no matter what the content or your political views.

They also rank their hits by popular hits instead of how good the information actually is. I am noticing as time goes on that I have to dig deeper and deeper to get the results I want.

My main bitch is they also want to archive everything about you Man you talk about George Orwell. Go read some stories about them. They are seriously out to know everything about you and everything you do on the net. You have ZERO privacy with them. Yes I know they were the ones to say no to the government about releasing records but, lets face it, they still want the info for themselves. They are NOT your friend in ANY way!

Man I could go on. I try to use other search engines when I can as I said. Yahoo itself actually has as good of hits most of the time.

I am really not a conspiracy type person at all but go to google itself and type in ‘google evil” or something like it and read away man. I am telling you guys they are into shit that is not for the betterment of man kind.

You will see a lot of crap conspiracy sites that are not right but in there are real things Google does that I just do not like.

These guys want to rule the world of information. They want to tell ISP’s what to do and the more power they get, the more they want.

To paraphrase the words of Dr Johnny Feaver; Just because your paranoid doesn’t mean they are not out to actually get you.

Yahoo wants $600 to put GR in their search database. Google did it for free.

I guess it really boils down to how you want to look at it. There are pro's and con's to all companies.
