Bad juju right? Steam has a game pack I reeeeeely want but one of the games in the pack Dirt2 has SecuROM and if I recall you'all said you'd rather chew off your arm than have SecuROM on our PC right?
Securom is a rootkit. There is really nothing more or less to say about it. Many made claims that is crashed their machine or did other damage, but the amount of claims of such things vs users who have installed tell me its not likely.
My feeling is that there should be no one with more access to my computer than myself and thus I will not knwoingly install a rootkit.
As for practical purposes, its probably not a big deal. In regards to you 'allowing this type of DRM to exist, there are concerns if you are a anti DRM sort of person.
Like I said its not for me for many reasons, but its a personal decision.
My fear, what happens when the next game comes out with a rootkit that propgates ads, or when they have a rootkit that phones home. What about the day it phones home and it has been hacked to distribute a worm. Or when someone finds a way to penetrate the rootkit. All of these IMHO are not too far fetched, but again, personal preference.
Finally I think there is a big long thread here somewhere about this. I am sure I wasn't so kind in that thread... I have gotten older. ;-)
Arrrgggggg Steam has a 6 game pack total $79 down to $17.99 I've been jonsing for Dirt2 for a while - at least Steam warms you One or more of these products may have third party SecuROM protection....

Have both Dirt and Dirt2 installed now - D2 is the way to go - while D1 is good (and some say better overall) it has too much of a comic book feel to it - like your racing an internet flash game.
D2 far better graphics - better menu - just far more refined overall. An interesting thing is the voice over in D2 has about 100 guy and 100 girl names with the ability to download more so when your driving your co-pilot or the voice over will say the name you pick - interesting addition.
Downside - to have auto save feature enabled in D2 you need a connection to Windows Live for gamers, where D1 has no internet connection.
I'm glad to hear that Dirt2 for the PC is pretty good. I bought Dirt2 for the Wii based on how awesome the Colin McRae Rally series was. Don't buy it for wii - it is the sux. Limited tracks, crappy physics, and no true rally racing 🙁
