Find the IP address of the websites you can't get to. This can be hard because this is what is broken, but you would find out from ping websitethatdoesn'twork.com this will resolve the name to an ipaddress, then put the IP address into your browser and I bet it works.
I will admit, this is why I don't use 3rd party DNS anymore, I found exactly this would happen. I used OpenDNS for a while and ceased because of such problems. I haven't tried the others though.
I was using my provider's DNS, but last night I tried OpenDNS. Neither put me thru to the site.
Duck, I don't usually use one of those anonymizers, but after a few days of not getting thru to the site, not being able to find any info on the net about the site being down, and after downforeverybodyorjustme told me the site was still there, I started thinking that Charter was blocking me, and about how I might get around it. Interesting that it worked.
I guess I didn't read your first email well... it seems those links are the site you are trying to get to and not anonymous links to the site you are trying to get to. I am not suprised to see ISPs blocking certain sites.

Yeah, I'm trying to get to a website, but I"m not able to. After several days, and all evidence pointing to the site still being up, I tried the anonomyzer on a hunch that my ISP might be blocking it, and that it might help. It did.
I can't get to the site using openDNS either. Could my ISP block a page other than omitting it in a DNS lookup? I guess they can.
Ok upon a re-re-read, I see my first impression is correct. Atomm is right on. It could be their DNS is screwed up or the site's DNS record is screwed up. I would say its less likely that the site would be blocked, though I expect we will see ISPs starting to block sites for file sharing and other things that could be or are considered more nefarious than not.
There were more than enough ISPs that started blocking napster when the legal issues started to happen over there (metallica lawsuit)
To answer your question Doc, an ISP can very easily block specific websites very easily, through DNS or via IP.
Tracert times out after leaving the servers named after my provider. When to WHOIS and pinged the website. Fine. Pinged from my computer- time out. Flushed DNS cache and went to google DNS - still no joy.

If it's timing out after the routers named for your provider, then it's a routing problem. If the last good hop has your ISP's name in it, then you'll have to call them and let them know you are unable to get to a location and provide them with the tracert. If the last good hop is named after another ISP, then it's a lot harder. You can try to contact their support, but as you are not a paying customer, they'll have little incentive to help you.
Without judging, if it's a site you wouldn't want to call them about, then try to find another website in the same IP range, X.X.X.0 - X.X.X.255 typically, and call them about that one. If you need some private help, send me the info and I'll see what I can dig up.

No big deal on not being to access the website, I guess. Just a mystery, and I have enough of those going on with my new install/OS. And yeah Atomm, it's a website I probably shouldn't bring to the attention of my ISP. I'll tell you about it in Vent if you want, but it's not something I'd want to post where it could be found with a search. As Paladin says, if you post it, it's there forever. Besides, Bubba's not ready to open his site up to the general public yet. . . there are some laws that need a careful reading, and maybe some lobbying to change, regarding the lawful use of porcupines in an entertainment capacity.
