Start Gaming

How the h should I get started up with gaming when this f%@&%§$ Laptap does not allow me too? Ok. Its not mine. So here I go get started now with some questions. What medium requirements should a Laptop/PC match?
I found sb who offered me a tiny IBM Laptop Pentium II WinXP but its aw better than the one I am running. Just dunno if its worth it. Thought it'll be definitively better to get something "real". And don't waste money I can later use for buying a reliable machine.

Is it important to have a laptop? You can get more power for less money if you're willing to use full-size components.

No, its not that important. Just handier.
As I am visiting Germany at least 2 x a year,
I would not like to leave my PC at home.
But sure. Why not use full-size components? I can do that too. Its prob the better choice.

What can you afford?

If you can get a monitor somewhere cheap (a lot of ppl are getting rid of their CRT monitors when they get LCD monitors) I guess you could get a decent game machine for under $500 US(in the US, I don't know what things cost overseas)

You need a case (can be had for $30 if you look around and aren't choosy)

Knew one. Took off in june.(Generally ppl here don't stay that long. Especially in those economically bad times. Its a paradies and many tried to make a livin, it always has been hard. Right now its almost impossible though.)In Germany it would be different. Looking out 4 ppl here on which I can rely on is difficult. The guys I met I don't think they r capable to get this done. Man, what u think I would not even have bothered u with my questions if I knew some. Maybe better to just wait until I jump over to Germany. But thanks 4 ur time and the effort. Do apreciate it.

That's what we do. These guys helped me out a lot when my computer died several months back, and my spare machine was too old to be much good for looking for replacement parts on the internet.

Now you know, for future reference, what it costs - here, in US dollars anyway. I suspect the pricing may be different where you live. If you get a new computer, you could use your old laptop when you travel for accessing the internet and such, and keep the more powerful machine for gaming, and everything else, at home.

Got more than I even asked for. Good references. I did not exspect them to be so detailed.
Will have to give the laptop back though.

Today I found someone who could build my game-machine. It should not be too difficult to set all the parts together and built the PC!
But now since I am living almost in Africa - geographically seen - most companies deliver inside Europe - only exeption Canarias! And if I find somebody - its going to be exspensive.
So all I need is patience now.
Anybody there with more than enough patience? - I am short of some. 😉

Varg orders his stuff from New Egg in the US. He said it was actually cheaper with the difference in the Euro and the Dollar.

Sure. Was thinking in that direction too. And they deliver to Germany.
I know sb over there building everything together.
What I don´t like is what inevidably comes next and is called the transportation part.
Would have to pick up the machine and get it on board of the plane that takes me back to the islands declare it as a fragile item. Somehow I don´t like the idea of it being handled by the mostly to indistructable luggage used ground personel. (Will get +info about that too).
First thing I do when I do get a day off I will check some ppl´s advices and prices here.
That comes directly after some mayor house repairs I am with right now. 🙄

If I were you, I'd just buy a box from your local supply house already built. If you don't have the knowledge to put it together and set it up, the first time you install software wrong your going to be up the creek as thats when you'll need tech friends the most.

I'd buy Dell Europe, or equivalent and specify what memory, HD, and Video card you want. At least this way you would have a warranty and get the OS included. Don't forget the OS is going to cost another $90-200 if you build your own box.

Ya, that´s right. Like Dell too.
Will take that into consideration while sorting out the option a little further.

As much as I have the feeling "I want a machine and I want it now" -
I won't give myself any pressure.

Although GR1 ads r haunting me each and every day I will try to keep my "One tracked mind" (anybody here who knows Motorhead's wonderful lyrics in that song?) My Thanks go to Atomm at that point 😉
I won't at least forget about that issue. And when I lay my head on my pillow to get a good night's rest I am dreaming about the machine if I want it or not my subconscience is already infected. How life changed.

Buying a pre-built box is probably the way to go for you, but I can't recommend any. I suppose if Dell has a European division, that's a good place to look. Make sure you run the specifications of any machine you want past your computer nerd of choice, and tell them what you want it for. I've seen many ppl buy an underpowered machine because they didn't know what they needed - then they'd come into our store looking for graphic card upgrades, etc.

I am getting started. Just lets wait and see. Also would like to give Newegg the order. And asking some ppl how they think about it I can intodruce them to Newegg in the same time.
Don't think there is anything wrong with that!

I love NewEgg - NEVER have had a problem with them - ever.
I bought a keyboard last year and did not like it, called for a return and customer service said just keep it, it's not worth shipping back - they gave me 100% return on my credit card and I have a back up keyboard.

Never an issue with NewEgg.

The few issues I have had were not their fault though they still went the extra mile and made things good. Newegg is outstanding.

My only complaint is that they charge me state sales tax. 🙁 They have a crappy warehouse in my state, but anything I order from them is never stocked there, so I get to pay the sales tax and wait several days while it's shipped from the west coast to the east coast, then back to Tennessee.

They have good inventory and good prices.
