Troubleshooting PC Slowness

    This is a great thread for learning how to troubleshoot PC slowness issues. There's a lot to wade through and there are some wise cracks, but overall, it's one of the best threads I've read on this issue.

    I wonder if it would be worth our while to start a PC troubleshooting thread with tools, links and info? Probably not. In a year or 2, the info will be old.

    One of those threads above talks about HD's switching from DMA to PIO. I had that happen once, so I try to keep that one in mind especially.

    and thank you Lexxi for mentioning the rootkit issue. Bubba did that too.

    To see that I infected my brand new build rig with a rootkit just by loading a lame game, made me quite uncomfortable even angry.

    Just a fast bit of advice...if you want to protect yourself as you browse. Use Firefox and make sure you use the NoScript add on. this alone will really help protect you from sites that can infect your computer with malicious code...

    Yeah a great addon. Used it on my laptop before. Doc recommended it. Just did not install it yet on my new rig. Thanks for the "reminder". I appreciate it
