I have a special soundcard for recording. It has 8 1/4" TRS plugs to hook up different audio equipment. The really cool part is it allows me to record the different inputs to different tracks. This is really important for the podcast interviews.
So, I have been trying to get my OS situation all sorted out and I went to get drivers for my sound card and noticed they had Linux Drivers. It's a third party website. I go there to check it out and stickied at the top of their forums is a how to get their drivers working in Ubuntu.
Even better, it supports the multitrack feature of my sound card.
There happens to be a fairly nice open source Audio Editor that is cross platform. I just downloaded it and even though it's not what I am use to, I think I can work through it and pick it up fairly quickly.
So, I head over to Ubuntu's website and there is a forum for a project for multimedia editing. There is even talk of a version of Ubuntu specificly designed for this stuff. WOOHOO!
I haven't installed it yet, but I'm sold.... I'll try to install Ubuntu today and see if I can get the audio stuff set up. Man, Linux has come a long, long way......
