I installed the consumer preview, hated it so much I removed it within a few days. The first time I booted it, I had to manually shut down using the switch because I couldn't find the shutdown. If I want a f'n mobile OS, I will use my f'n ipad. When I use a desktop it's because I want to get somethign done. I don't give a shite about how pretty it is. Further more, Windows 8 is 1995 pretty, HUGE SQUARE BOXES, not 2012 pretty, streamlined and clean.
In true form, Microsoft is not straying away from their every other OS sucks pattern.

I will get it for free as part of my MS Subscription, but I won't be using it on anything for a while. The Metro UI sucks for a regular desktop PC without touchscreen.
I think they are making a huge mistake and all the negative feedback has them worried. Seriously, $40 for an upgrade? I think that speaks volumes about how they think this is going to go over.
Just thinking about the problems we had at my last company rolling out the new version of Office because of the Ribbon Menu, I can't even imagine rolling out a whole OS like this. And we only had 100 users and were a technology company and nearly had a mutiny over the Ribbon.
I think they are so blinded by Apple's Ipad and Iphone that they totally screwed their real cash cow, Enterprise users. I will switch to a Mac before I use this.
Apple is going the same route too. iOS will become the Apple OS. Metro will be the new Windows UI.
The real scary part, is that leaves Linux... Now look at Ubuntu with Unity.... Same f'n move, toward a UI that is so simplified that you can't get anything done. Everything is based off a search. Someone will do very well to maintain an OS that still allows you to get at the system.
I get the feeling Windows 8 will bring MS back to maintaining a Business OS and a Home OS like back in the NT/98 days, before XP merged the kernels. I suspect there will be a 'Home/mobile" OS, a business OS (not server, but what we today would consider a traditional OS, such as XP), and Server OS
Windows 8 will be a huge flop, not because of the mutiny of the changes, but because people are still just migrating to Win 7.
While we are at it, what Linux flavors do people like now a days? I liked Ubuntu, but Unity sucks, I hate it. Mint is the new flavor du jour, I am not a fan. I feel like I am heading back towards Fedora/RH. But the Debian kernel was just getting comfortable.
I stick to Server Linux OSes and CLI. I can't use a Linux GUI to save my life, but as long as I can get to CLI, I am set. :-)
Technically Bubba, IOS is Apple OS modified for smart devices. It's the same BSD base.
What I'm worried about is Windows see's the lock in that Apple has with IOS and wants that same action. A Locked down device is bad news for computers. Could you imagine having a computer that only allowed you to install approved applications?

Linux has a GUI??
all my servers run CentOS or something similar...I tried Linux on my laptop....I could not stand the GUI's available.
Windows 7 is awesome and it does everything I need without much hassle...I will be sticking with it. The Metro UI is nice for touch, but anything else is complete trash.
I hope Windows doesn't start locking crap down like apple. I am back to a zero apple household and loving it!
