Ya'll have been at it longer than I have.
Since I have upgraded to Win 7 Pro 32 bit Firefox/IE9 is not remembering my log on's to forums, web email, basically anything needing a log on and password I am constantly having to re-enter every time.
Open to suggestions or solutions.
(Checked application settings and confirmed that remember passwords is on and active for both)
The new versions of Firefox, AFAIK, don't remember. This statement depends on what type of privacy setting you put into Firefox.
Now the way to do it is to import your Firefox Profile to the new machine.
On XP the profile is found in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
This is a folder made of a string of alphanumerics such at a4ew89q2 Copy this whole folder to the proper place on the W7 machine. In the above directory (in this case the ...\firefox\ you will find profiles.ini
Open profiles.ini in a text editor and change the directory name to the directory above
The typical place for the profiles directory in Win7 is C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>.
Does this make sense? I can explain it better. this is from the top of my head and quickly. It's easy, but sounds somewhat complicated. But since I know you have the brain of a potato, well....
😄
The absolutely best way is if you had xmarks installed and synced on your last firefox install as an addon. If its possible to go back to it, add xmarks, set it up to sync bookmarks and your passwords, and then just xfer that to your new machine.
I use it across everything I own, even onto my new B&N ColorNook and my LG Phone.
Now FireFox v4 has built in sync which you can setup with your tablets and phones after sharing a wifi connected session with pass numbers. Once you do that your phone stays in constant sync with your PC, tabs, sessions, history, passwords.
Found it - Fixed it. FireFox 4.0 setting
Tools > Options > Privacy > Hit drop down, select Use Custom settings for History.
Default is Permanent Private Browsing mode - uncheck this.
Fixed.
