Well, my BSOD continues.... Every time you wake the computer up, it BSOD's. I remember a time when dealing with dumps was easy. You wrote down the BSOD code and looked it up. Seems those days are over and you have to understand programing and how to use the windows debugger....
I found a work around and plan on trying it.... I hope it works....
If you have dump files to analyze, you might give this a shot.
Well that didn't turn up anything useful.... All I know is it's a kernel panic.... sheesh....
Not sure if the two are related, but sound keeps disappearing. Not dropping out, but simply stops working all together and windows detects a problem, but can't fix it.

I have just finished finding all of the different drivers and getting everything all nice and happy in one location, including the X-Fi driver from creative's website. Well I am going to cross my fingers and begin the plunge.
My win 7 RC problem was because my particular Audigy 2 card had no driver support from creative. It still worked, but caused a few annoyances. I bought the XFI and never had another issue.
I had another crash. The webpage on Microsoft told me to suspect any of the installed drivers.... Holy crap.... How the hell do I narrow down everything?
Does anyone know how to remove drivers in Windows 7? If I remove the device, it reinstalls using the driver I installed instead of a default.....

Determine what devices you have and just do a Google search within the time that Windows 7 was widely available, containing the name of the device, the word 'driver', and terms describing how your computer crashed. Might take awhile. Start with your oldest stuff. I don't have the level of tech knowledge that some of you guys have, so I don't reinvent the wheel 😀

Xp is like that. If you goto 'safe mode' and remove the device from there when it reboots I think it allows you to install new
Or you can goto device manager, goto the device, goto the driver tab and there it allows you to uninstall the driver, or update the driver.
I haven't. However, the crash is consistent. Monitor is off. I assume the computer is in sleep mode. I hit ESC on the keyboard or right click the mouse. The screen comes up, then BAM, BSOD, Reboot.
To me, if it was memory, the reboot should occur at random intervals or at the least during certain parts of apps.
I noticed I had two HID Mouse and two HID Keyboard entries on Device Manager. I uninstalled one of each and so far no crashes. I'll keep monitoring. I also need to reboot to see if the second entry comes back.
I also downloaded the compatibly program from MS. It only flagged a couple of software problems when run. The install on my notebook was straight forward, but I do have one ? in system hardware properties.. oh I fixed that, the 5in1 flashcard reader. Every other driver was on the win7 disk.
If you are letting your computer go into Sleep mode then that very well could be your issue. I have never had good luck with Sleep mode and I do not use it on any machine. Well I never put any of my computers to sleep period but if I did, I would not use it. Desktops, just let them run. Maybe turn the HD's off after x amount of time if you are worried but let the computer just run.
I do use hibernate on my laptops with good success.
Lets recap.
Sleep mode==bad. Hibernate==good.

I'll be honest, I don't even know what mode it's in. I just know the video card stops sending a signal to the LCD and I have to click on something to wake it up. Is that sleep or hibernate?
With Vista--Go to your screen saver--power settings--change plan settings--advanced--click the sleep + tree and turn off the ability for the machine to use sleep mode at all. Make everything "Never"
Also make sure under your network adapters that you turn off the networks card to be able to go to sleep. Go to the manage network adapters under control panel. You have to dig to get to it. Then select your adapter and do properties--configure--power management and do not enable the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
With the RC on my server, I'm using sleep now. So far its worked flawlessly. Not the case before so I tend to agree with Pal. Hibernate just seems to take forever to turnoff. I also use sleep on my notebook which seems to work correctly after installing win7 home. Before it was hit or miss on if it would restart after opening the lid or the sleep button.
??? Does 64b 'require' 4 gigs of ram? If so that may be why I had so many probs with it on my server's vista install. I only had 2 gigs in it. It seemed to work well, installed ok, but had those moments about once an hour that required a reboot. Not sure if it was vista, a 64b problem, or a combo of both, but it kept losing my wireless bridge and locking up FF and Newsbin.
Despite the impassioned explanations for 64b, I'm going to stick with 32b for at least another year.

I'm starting to think my mobo has a problem or something went bad with the Bios upgrade I did before installing windows 7 because I can't seem to narrow this crap down.
I even crashed trying to load Safe mode.... sheesh.....

No, 64 bit doesn't require more ram. And in fact 32bit isn't the actual culprit for the 4Gb limit, but it gets all the blame. Honestly I don't think you will see benefits of 64 bit yet, but now that there is much more population using and capapble of 64bit you'll see 64bit only apps.
Removed Mouse, Keyboard and Sound Card Drivers.... Still crashed..... I saw a few crashes listed in a DX module. The notes still list it as a general crash, so I'm going to try it with the NVidia driver removed.
OK. I removed my nvidia drivers and reverted back to the standard windows drivers. A funny thing happened when I did. Sleep and Hibernate are greyed out. I really didn't expect that. The good news is the system won't crash. The bad news is it's kind of hard to troubleshoot since I can't reproduce the issue.
So now I gotta find some windows 7 nvidia drivers slightly older than the one's I'm running.......
Anyone else running a Nvidia 8800GT with Windows 7?
