    Recently I wiped my main gaming machine...call it spring cleaning. It was getting rusty and it was a must do. I did however forget then when I originally bought WoW that one of the discs was bad and wouldn not install the game. Is there anyway to get ahold of the Blizzard downloader and just download and install that way?

    It looks like you are in luck.

    If you are using Windows XP/2000 please be sure you are logged on as an administrator account when installing the game. If the game is not installed on an administrator account, computer permissions can prevent the installation from completing. We cannot support the game on a non-administrator account.

    If the installation hangs or gives an error at the same point or on the same file every time, it's possible the CD itself is damaged on the sector where that file is stored. Try the disk in an alternate drive or even an alternate computer to see if the same problem happens. This is the easiest way to identify a potentially damaged CD.

    Another good test and potential workaround is to copy the entire contents of the installation CDs (or the one DVD) to your hard drive:

    1. First, make a new folder on your desktop and name it something such as WoW Installer.
    2. Display the disc contents by opening My Computer, right-click the CD, and choose Open.
    3. Go to the Edit menu and choose Select all, so all the files are highlighted.
    4. Go to the Edit menu and choose Copy.
    5. Open the new folder you created on your desktop
    6. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
    7. The files should copy from the CD to that folder.
    8. Once this is complete, please put in the next install disk.
    9. Open up the disk (using the process in step 2 above).
    10. Select the file called Installer Tome with the number at the end.
    11. Go to the Edit menu and choose Copy.
    12. Open the new folder you created on your desktop
    13. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
    14. The "Tome" file will copy over.

    Repeat steps 8-14 to get the "Installer Tome" files off of the remaining installation disks. If you receive any error while copying any of these files, that typically indicates a problem with the disk.

    However, if you were able to successfully copy all of the files to the new folder on your hard drive, please try running the installation program straight from the folder by double clicking on the installer icon. This has been a dependable workaround for a significant percentage of users, and may get the game installed for you.

    If the disk appears to be damaged, please exchange it at the place of purchase or see our Replacement Information page.

    You can also try setting your CD-ROM drive to run with different settings. See our DMA and Sync Data Transfer page for more instructions on toggling these settings.

    We strongly recommended running in a Selective Startup when attempting installation, since background applications may interfere with the transfer of data. You can find more information and detailed instructions for this mode on the World of Warcraft Closing Background Applications page.

    Finally, you should make sure the hard drive is working properly, and free of viruses and spyware. These pages will help with that:

    * Running ScanDisk and Defrag
    * Computer Security

    We have seen some reports from Windows users where clearing out the contents of the Windows "Temp" directory has gotten users around installation and CRC errors. The folder is typically located in your Documents and Settings folder. (For example: C:/Documents and Settings/YourName/Local Settings/Temp). Delete the contents of the Temp folder and then try running the installation again.

    ----------

    If anything was missing or damaged when you purchased World of Warcraft, please return it immediately to the place of purchase and ask to exchange it for an unopened copy. If the store is unwilling or unable to assist you, please see the below instructions for replacement directly through Blizzard.

    For all situations a note is required that explains what happened, what is needed, your full name, your phone number, and a return address. Please type this information if possible, since hand-written addresses can make it more difficult for our team to get your replacement back to you.

    I saw you playing the other night. Does this mean you found a work around?

    The idea I had was to download the free trial at PlanetBattlefield and use your key instead of the trial. It's a long shot.

    BTW, what server are you playing on?
