XP SP2

Well, I downloaded the full install of SP2, I installed it. After the install you need to reboot, instead of the 30-45 secs before it took about 12 minutes to come all the way to my desktop. I understand it was making all the new changes, but I rebooted again and stuff seems laggy. Might want to hold off on this one for a period of time. I installed it on my work computer, so as to not ruin BFV

Raze will probably test his BFV system. He's already done it once during beta. He's all for that kind of stuff. We were just talking about that today. He mentioned the Nvidia drivers are out, to which I replied, "yea, and". My theory on drivers is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. No bleeding edge for me. :-)

So Raze, tell us how it went.... :-)

Remember... XP SP2 turns on the personal firewall be default... This may cause issues with games...

If you have a personal router/firewall on your network, you may want to think about disabling the XP firewall... Up to you though...

xp sp 2 comes up with a huge screen that asks you to turn on firewall, auto update and virusscan, it doesn't just do it auto.

No I was expecting to have to answer 4000 questions abut why peoples various internet apps didn't work. I had the same impressions that you had, that windows would change it without warning (and mabye it did in the rc2) but in this full blown admin version I got today it had a big sort of welcome screen that told you whether they were on or not and helped you to enable these things. So don't feel bad ephil, it is the impression that MS gave us.

I've been running SP2 on my maine machine since RC1 and have had no problems, even with lagging. I had a little problem with RC1 but was easilly fixed by adding any internet apps to the allowed list in the firewall. RC2 was a BIG improvement over RC1. When I ran BFV for the first time it paused the startup, asked if it should allow it, this time only or never. I said allow it and XP inserted it into the firewall exception and BFV continued with no problems. I have installed the final on my mom's pc this evening and all went well on her machine as well. Stability has been great as well for me, I haven't crashed one time since I installed the RC1 cept for a hard drive problem.

As for slow startups? Mine speeded up. Go figure.

I have now installed it on about 4 more machines, and Sarge is on one more machien all are running good including my initial install machine so as of now I am giving it a thumb up.

Blue are your machines logging into a domain?? That is when they are connecting to network resources.

I've installed it on 4 machines all no problems. 3 dells 1 clone.

hmmmm, and weren't you having problems with your game machine just the other night with it rebooting? Wonder if it is a problem between the chair and keyboard? mahahaha 🙂

oh, but you were installing them on Dell's so that most likely was the problem... 🙂

Mine was 2 Dell GX270's 1 gx260. hmmmm.....

It could be the Altiris Monitoring software we have on the machines.
It could be the Image that we gave Dell to install on the machines
It could be the Deep Freeze, which we use to freeze all the machines so kids cannot screw them up.
It could have been alot of variables, But we are trying to install 700 machines
At 90 different sites this month, so I don't have alot of time to try to fix it now.
But I do have a Ghostcast server and a clean Image, so I have a solution.
And who cares, If anything hits the system (Virus/Spyware)
The user can just reboot and the problem goes away.
