I had to post it!

Before I ever went to the list, I was thinking they better have Jimi Hendrix on there several times. To my surprise, he was on the list 3 times. Best list ever!!!!!!!!

I would have put Hendrix at the top 1, 2, 3 myself. He is one of the few that recorded in the 60's-70's that sound like it could have been recorded yesterday. People are still ripping off his riffs.


and it's true. I can't hear Freebird without falling into sort of a twitchy fugue.

I put Hendrix and Black Sabbath in that group. Black Sabbath invented Heavy Metal as far as I'm concerned. War Pigs could have been recorded yesterday.....

These lists are usually BS. . .but most of those selections would have been on my list as well.

Wow I think I should stay out of this one as it is like politics, everyones has a strong opinion on this stuff.
I will mention people and not actual songs.

While Hendrix was very very good, and I am a fan, I think there are just as good and better solos out there.
I will say that All Along The Watchtower is my favorite Hendrix tune!
I do not disagree with any of the choices I guess. My problem is I like all of it 😉

One of my favorite guitarists is of course, David Gilmour.
I will say I think Lindsey Buckingham is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. He is really really good. Carlos Santana is always good as well.

Steve Vai, while Doc's favorite, is very good but again his stuff seems a bit of the same. Like Hendrix at times it can sound like the same basic riffs over and over. If you are talking one particular solo then that is cool. I guess I think in terms of overall performances.

How about Slash, he rates very high. A talented guy.

Gilmour has some AWESOME work out there that will be respected a hundred years from now, I feel. However, what you say of Vai can also be said of Gilmour, Eddie Van Halen, or almost any other guitarist. . .You hear Gilmour, you KNOW it's Gilmour. Same with SRV, Mick Ralphs from Bad Company, others. A musician's style, and weaknesses, will define their sound as much as their talent and strengths. You listen to enough of their work, and new stuff will start to sound familiar.

Slash did some very nice work, as did G 'n' R as a whole. I think they burned themselves out on booze, partying, and whatever drugs they may have used. . .a lot of talent went to waste there. I always felt they didn't meet their potential, tho Slash seem seems pretty coherent the past few years when I've seen him on TV. Has he done much since G 'n' R?

I agree to point but I think it is more the style of music that reflects this. Hose Rock/blues is very predictable no matter who does it so this is not a cut on Stevie. BB King is the same way. It is a lot of the same type of riffs. I think there are only a handful of original sounds here.

Harder Rock I feel has a better chance of variety. Gilmour's stuff can sound the same to a point but if you listen to his solo stuff and early PF it is very different. Everything I ever heard of House Rocker/Blues music is a lot of the same, old or new. Remember I mentioned that when watching that Vai concert that one time. It honestly sounded like the same song over and over with a slight variation to me.

Other types of music is also like this like big band, look at Brian Setzer. I like him a lot but it is a lot of the same when you listen to it.

To be honest I think it is what you are into. If you are really into the House Music you may hear all the nuances to everything they play. I think if you are a casual listener it is more of the same.

So I think this is a huge influence in ones opinion here. Music is VERY subjective. 🙂

More of Lonnie Mack, this one is "Stop". It was off the album that Stevie Ray Vaughan produced and played on. . .a really cool track. If you're very familiar with Stevie's work, you can hear how influenced he was by Lonnie's playing.

Doc, Slash has a new band, Velvet Revolver with Scott Wyland from Stone Temple Pilots on vocals. It's more mainstream, but he is playing. A couple of other guys from GnR are in that band as well.

While I think Steve Vai was a talented guitarist (I've seen him twice), I do think he tends to sound the same. I also think Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover is a great song, but I'd put Joe Satriani in the Top 20 before that song. Joe's talent and weakness is that he has more than one style. That helps and hurts him all at the same time.

I also think this list is a bit biased towards radio play songs. Comfortably Numb is an awesome song, but I think the solo in Shine On You Crazy Diamond is better.

I saw Stevie & Joe Cocker in concert about a year before Stevie died. It poured down rain at the outdoor ampitheater, so much so that the first 20 rows were underwater. TORRENTIAL rain. My friend and I walked in without a ticket. . .we had them, but no one was around to take them! Actually, MY ticket was back at the car (whoops!) The rain quit about an hour before the concert, and at the employee meeting (Yeah, we were there. What the hell, everyone was in yellow rain slickers like us, and there was nothing else to do, so we figured we'd get some info. . .) they were talking about the possibility of going with festival-style seating. So there we were, the first 2 people at a concert where you got to pick your own seats! It wasn't until the boss tried to assign us something to do that we had to tell him we didn't work there 😱

The fire department came and was able to pump out all the water before the concert, so no festival seating 🙁 But since we had been hanging out with the employees so much, no one asked us for our ticket, so we found the 2 closest seats we could (that weren't occupied) I didn't even need to go back to the car to get my ticket. 😀

I was offered free tickets to SRV in Oklahoma City. I was a senior in HS and I hadn't really got into him yet. He died a few months later. I heard it was a horrible show and that he was so coked out of his mind, he did a terrible job, but I still wish I had went.

Weird. Word was he had cleaned up the last year or 2. That was what everyone thought was so tragic: Here was an amazing talent that had finally got clean and started to take his music in new directions and POW! Hard to say which would've been worse: Missing out on his show, or having a crappy drugged out performance to remember.

I saw Crosby, Stills and Nash in concert back when Crosby was skipping parole to tour. My friend and I called it his, "Free, armed, and high" tour, because he was all three (for the moment anyway). He left the stage a couple songs into the set, and Still and Nash took turns trying to get him back out while the other did solo material. He eventually did come back out near the end for a few tunes. Personally I thought it was a better concert than if it had gone off as planned. Stephen Stills KICKS ASS on guitar.

As for the concert itself, it was very good, and SRV really impressed. However, as cool as it was to see him do all the guitar work himself, I was a bit disappointed that he didn't have a rhythm guitarist. I thought it would've given a richer sound and freed Stevie up more for his solos. He had a big place to fill with sound. Had it been a more intimate setting I probably wouldn't have noticed. I always wished I'd seen BOTH Vaughan brothers in concert. I DID see Jimmy Vaughan twice, but not that day.

Forgot to add earlier. . .Stevie opened the concert with the song, 'Pittsburgh flood" 🙂
