I bought this album last week and I must say I am really, really disappointed. There are a few songs I enjoy, but there are quite a few songs that I can't stand to listen too. It feels too far removed from a lot of their other work. Some songs are almost Jazz like. I don't care for Jazz. It's one of the few types of music I don't like.
I do like Imagine, but People Are People is completely trashed. They took a great Depeche Mode song and killed it.
For me, this album was a real disappointment. I know someone (ephil!) will probably disagree with me and that's ok. We all view the world through different eyes or in this case different ears. I just didn't care for this album.
Yeah... I did the normal "their other cd's rocked, so will this"... As I found out in my car on the way home for Best Buy... It wasn't my gig... Some of the songs sounded nice in my car... But I was waiting for something powerfull to come through... Nothing...
Oh well... Still waiting on the next Tool CD... I mean really, the band says they are done and just waiting on Mynard to lay down the vocals... GET TO IT!!!
I know this an old post, but I have to put in my half a cent. I enjoyed the album myself. The new track passive is incredible. Believe it or not, one of my favorite tracks on the album is the What's Going On cover. I don't know if anyone cares about remixes, but in the aMOTION DVD, there is a bunch of remixes of APC songs on it. I enjoy those. I agree that Maynard needs to get off his ass and lay down some lyrics for the next TooL album.
I need to rent aMOTION. I would probably like it. I was just really disappointed by eMOTIVE. I did like Whats Going On. It was one of the few I actually liked. I think a lot of people were disappointed by this album because it tanked in sales after the first week.
But, I respect that everyone has different music tastes. I just wish it was better.
