Counterfeit

Hi,

My name is jb and i'm contacting you for the band Counterfeit.

We just released our last album named "Don'l let me fall asleep again"
It has been mixed by Greg Gordon who's worked with System of a down, Slayer, Sum41, Jet, Oasis, Helmet....

People usually says we sound a bit like Tool, Deftones, Isis...

Do you guys have any MP3's anyplace else besides myspace? Do you guys have a normal web site?

I refuse to ever go to a myspace page. Sorry I just hate myspace, I think it is lame.
They can get copyrighted material off of it but not pedophiles etc...

The broadcasting rates for Internet Radio stations are about to skyrocket. Even with advertising, we make about $10 a month on Gamers Radio. At the proposed rate increases, it will be no time before we are paying $100+ a month to broadcast.

To help offset some of this cost and rather than shutting down, I was considering a pay for play situation of say $50 for a complete band spotlight for a month, along with a bio page on Gamers Radio, and an intro/outro announcing the name of the band and the song along with a reference back to Gamers Radio where they can learn even more about the band.

I was also thinking about doing a podcast spotlight along the lines of Rockline with an interview with the band and 3 songs hosted by us, but free for the band to use however they see fit. I'm not sure how much I would charge for this, but again, it would be a small amount to help offset broadcasting charges.

Please feel free to be honest. I know some bands are not going to like this, but if we don't do something, there may not be a Gamers Radio to be heard on.

On a side note, GR1 - Heavy Metal averages 40,000+ Total Listening Hours a month and is Rock.com's Heavy Metal - Todays Hits station with another 8,000-15,0000 TLH a month. So, this will generate exposure for the bands somewhere in the nature of 8,000-10,000 listeners actually hearing the song in a month.

The songs from our new album are in the player along with some videos.

Well i won't hide you that i woul'd have prefered it free 😀 but i do understand that you need to raise money, and that you don't wan't to charge listeners.
We just have to see "classic" media to see how they work. On traditional air radio, music labels pay to be airplayed so i think you don't have real choice.

What you just will have to do is keeping your audience high. Because now, this will make all your radio depends on that. Will more look like a business than a passion but it seems you don't have choice.

What you will need now is real statistics. And bands will ask you feedbacks. Maybe a counter on the band bio page will be a simple thing at first.
You will have to run a first test i guess.

Then you'll have to see how your audience react to that. But as all internet radios will face that i suppose this could be ok.
At least people would be happy to not have to pay to listen and to know that money's coming from somwhere else.

But i don't know... Let me know how it goes 😉

Ah i forgot the background.

We've been playing together for 7 years now. Our first album "Between the end and the midle" came out in june 2004 but was not available in the US. Only Europe.

Then we toured and started recording our new album in january 2006. We did the recording between lyon (our hometown) and Paris (yes we're french by the way 🙂 ) then we went to Los Angeles in June to mix it.

These are the big lines.

And personnaly:
i'm not really a gamer anymore (sorry) but i've worked 3 years as a game tester for Atari and it kind of vaccinated me. But i've met my girlfriend back there.
The other members of the band are more gamers than me.
