Dr. Pepper has agreed to hand out a free can of their soda to everyone in America*if Axl releases his long-awaited album, "Chinese Democracy" in 2008.

2 things come to mind:
1. A bribe would be more effective if made towards the person who has the control. For example, if they offered Axl himself 303,716,000 cans of soda.
2. It kinda reminds me of that time on Saturday Night Live when Lorne Michaels jokingly offered $3,000 to the Beatles if they would reunite and perform 3 songs on the show. " 'She love you. . . yeah yeah yeah'. . . that's $1,000 right there. If you want to give Ringo less, that's your business." McCartney has said in interviews that he and John were hanging out at John's Dakota apartment (in NYC) and watching SNL at the time, and somewhat seriously considered going down to the studio to take them up on the offer, just to take the joke to the next level.
As I wrote the second part, I realize it doesn't really relate much to the original topic, but my thought process often takes circuitous routes, so there you go. Also, it's too cool a story not to bring up occasionally, and reflect on a brilliant moment in music history that almost occurred, except that they were too tired.
