Good Country Music

I know some may not like it, but there are some great country songs out there.

Take this one. It's closer to rock, but it's listed as country in the music stores.

I show that you were pwned within 30 min. This vid is no longer available. Regardless, I can still make the same statement I would have made. isn't the line "good country music" an oxymoron?

Ten years ago, I would've agreed with you. Now I know that Country music is the closest thing to classic rock that's being made. Occasionally, you'll find stuff without too much steel guitar and syrupy strings. Charlie Daniels and the Marshall Tucker Band helped me accept the southern accent. I still say you can have Country music without a faux accent, but Country music doesn't seem to agree with me. 🙁

I don't listen to 95% of it on purpose(it's Nashville, you can't hide from it) but occasionally I run into something I like.

I would submit that most of the country music being made today is more pop music than what I would consider country. Did you listen to that Dylan/Cash link that I posted the other day? That is country music. Also the Two Cow Garage playlist that I posted back a month or two (or three?) is also pretty countryish...

I actually have and listen to some country music. I have been to a Shania Twain concert, though she is more pop than country IMHO

Maybe Atomm Will drop back here and tell us what the name of the group and song is that we can't watch.

Must be a well known song around the middle west. Ppl getting fun with their In Line dance a lot.

Never saw it. More likely it is older than 2 month. Is it sw in the Music forum?

Agree to you in full extent with EARL! Sure is good country music. Deep, dense and atmospheric this song! Sweet stuff!

Kid Rock tho is a lil lamer to me. He definitly no does good country music. He prob does not even know what that is. IMO he does not live up to his image and he says he is a rocker, watch that:

I think Kid Rock's kind of pathetic. He's seems desperate for attention, which is odd, because I guess most performers are. I get that vibe off of him though, more than I get it from other performers. . .and he sucks. He doesn't seem very good at all to me. He's lasting a lot longer than I thought her would, and I keep seeing in cameos and small roles in movies, TV show and videos. I hope he finds a spot in acting, because his music really grates on me.

They are certainly on the "rock" side of country. I look at country as not being simply a particular sound, but also it is what the songs are about and the emotions behind them. The country music that I was forced to listen to as a kid is a world away from what the top country songs are now. On the other hand, the music of the Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo, and Two Cow Garage is much closer in spirit to the classic country of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and similar artists.

Uncle Tupelo essentially kicked off a "movement" called Alt-Country and they could play traditional music like this:

Ya sure the lyrics r important, the atmosphere which is transmitted... I can see that.
Just that in the past - and that means - until I heard Steve Earle´s song, I thought, that country is that overloaded with artificially feeling crap music with those acustic guitars, violins and all is mixed up with a singer u can easily imagine is an stereoid addict - for the artificially "manlyness" he is showing.(Same with the female singers!) The only feeling it ever triggered in me was disguise.

As I said, never seen them Two Cow Garage, but they undoubtly kick ass. Will want more of them for sure!

Uncle Tupelo´s style I like a lot too, and I need to listen to some more still. Let it time to sink. Then see to it. But it already has enlarged my music range with listening to some songs.

And last but not least - what about one of my all time favorites Neil - he , without having to use much country style guitars or violin or stuff seems very down to earth and often I can hear "country" speak through his songs.
