It will be 40 years this Saturday that a 27 year old Jimi Hendrix passed away. NPR has a great story on how he actually got his big break. It's worth listening too for the cool song alone.

NPR does a good job with sound in general. they use it well to convey their story. I am sometimes shocked at some of the music or other sound drop they pull out of obscurity to help their story telling. Even sometimes they'll pull out some crazy rap or metal that you could never expect to hear on such a "dorky, hippie" type radio station.
Duck. I made almost the exact same comment on the post of this on Facebook. Seriously, could you imagine how different music would be if Jimi was still alive? Very few performers pour their soul into music like he did. If that kind of influence was passed on to just two or three other bands, it would still be awesome.
Also, I love NPR. I've always found it to be more straight forward than other talk radio programs. And the music spotlights they come up with can be amazing.
Biography channel had an Excellent Bio on Jimmy last night (new show not a repeat form the 80's) Had a lot of "unseen" footage according to them, like Dick Cavett interviews - they had a voice actor reading parts of his diary - had his thoughts on the race riots and how it influenced his songs - "live" British TV footage.
It was about the man behind the music and what drove him, literally the last 1 m in 30 sec talked about his death... unlike those that start at the half way point about the drugs and how the "counter culture" effected the 60's - this Bio was a Bio on him.
Really really well done. (So well that I actually thought of purchasing the show on DVD some day)
Is this the one where an actor plays Jimi, but they use real stuff? I saw most of a show about Jimi on Bio, but it wasn't "live". The actor was lip synching.
