I am going to start posting music stuff here... There is a lack of music posting here, I want to help fix that...

Before we start, let's understand something about me...

I am a person of many musical tastes that range from electronic to metal to "wtf is that?!"... Honestly, about the only music I just can't get into is country, but I have a respect for it and understand how some people can enjoy it...

Edit: I changed the title so that it is not so personal to me. I want to thank Drix for adding to this and I look forward to a good discussion on the many types of music we all listen to 🙂

PRIMUS SUCKS!!!

One of my all time favorite bands is Primus. Their sound is one of the most unique sounds out there with Les Claypool calling his bands music "psychedelic polka." [ref]

It is also something to note that they are the only band to have their own genre. 🙂 [ref] [ID3 genre tag 108]

I, too, listen to a great swath of genre's, Ephil. But I do have some country in my 80+GB collection. Not a lot of it. But the last few years the amount of older, as in before I was born, music has increased dramatically. For instance, My favorite Beatles album is by far Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearst Club Band.
Anyone that doesn't have a favorite Beatles album, has never listened to them. And everyone should have some Rolling Stones in their library... but I could go on all day about classic rock.

Sometimes it's a lot easier to go track by track rather than by full albums, But still, I'd like to share a few gem albums. The following aren't one's I'd call must have's, but they are members of my more gaming music selections:
A fun album that has been one of my favorites in the last few years:

Sadly I think I could say that I have never really enjoyed the sounds of The Beatles... I might need to be hung for saying that... But, it is true... 🙁

The Offspring have been a band that I have always enjoyed [even when others say "Ewww, Offspring?"]

Now Beck, creative as hell and a great artist!

There were bits of their work (lots of their early stuff) that make me want to turn the stereo off.

Ok, so this is turning into a Beatles thread.

While I love me some Yellow Submarine, my favorite Beatles album has to be The White Album. Rocky Raccoon is a goofy song, but I can never get enough of it. As My Guitar Gently Weeps is pure genius. There are so many good songs on the White Album. It would be the album I would want to make if I was a musician.

I love Primus. They are weird and their lyrics often creepy, but it works. I saw them at a Lolapalloza back in the day and it was way awesome.

Not even sure where to start with this. My musical taste mainly sticks to the alt. country, alternative, indie, punk side of the spectrum. I grew up in a strictly country music household - mostly the good kind - Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams (not Jr.) and the like and that was pretty much all I listened to until I happened upon a cassette with REMs "Murmur" album on it. Needless to say, things changed. Of course a lot of the alt country that I listen too now fits firmly in the classic country.

The Jayhawks "Hollywood Town Hall" is (20 Years later) still one of my all time favorite albums.

And of course Uncle Tupelo


Buffalo Tom - Another all time favorite. I still remember the night I first heard them on 120 Minutes with the premier of the video for Birdbrain. I saw them this spring play an accoustic show that was broadcast on NPR. It was awesome. They are playing 25th anniversary shows Thanksgiving weekend in Boston and I am still hoping to go...

This is the kind of stuff I'd love to see on the front page of GR. I know it sounds crazy, but it is our personality and it would draw in others who think like we do.

It was OSU's town and all the hot college chicks showed up in tight jeans. And for the record, OSU's outnumbers OU on the hot girl list. I think it's all those darn farm girls.

Yeah, but I live in Norman, and can vouch it too has plenty of them. Maybe a little bit smalller number than Stillwater, but they come in more diversity. *shrug* It's still a generous number.

Bassnectar!!!

NOTICE: For those of you that are not into this kind of music, listen anyway... Just understand that this kind of music takes a little bit to get going [the drop]... So somewhere around the 45sec - 1min mark is when things 'should' happen...

Bassnectar is an electronic artist/dj that crosses many genres in his music. One thing that stands out with his music is the various tempos used... Now, while he does do the popular "wobble" of Dubstep, he does a lot of music without it as well. Along with that, as most djs do, he creates a ton of remixes that some could say completly change the original for the better.

Bassnectar is one of the artists that I listen to while working... Anyway, let's have a listen.

+1 to the Bassnectar. I just found them a couple of months ago on one of my dubstep/techno pandora stations!

I am a huge fan of dubstep and I was introduced to it when a friend sent me a link to this guy named Dub FX. Even if you aren't a fan of dubstep, I highly recommend checking this guy out.

If nothing else just watch the first 2 videos and you will be amazed.



In the 2nd video just wait till the vocals kick in around 1:40, it is well worth it!
